It’s the perfect time of year to start practicing “hygge,” the popular Danish and Norwegian term for creating a warm and cozy space. And as every home decor aficionado knows, lighting candles is a simple but effective way to change the atmosphere of a space and make it feel more relaxing. These pressed flower candles are a gorgeous decor item that will make your home feel extra welcoming for the colder months ahead. Plus, they make an excellent versatile DIY gift idea for the holidays. Without further ado, here’s what you need to create your own pretty pressed flower candles.

Materials Required:

  • Flowers & leaves
  • Parchment paper
  • Books
  • Tea light candle
  • Lighter
  • Small paintbrush
  • Pillar candles

Instructions 

Step One: Place flowers and leaves between two pieces of parchment paper.

Step Two: Place parchment paper inside of a book. Close the book and stack other books on top. Leave for 2-3 weeks.

Step Three: Remove leaves and flowers from the book.

Step Four: Light your tea light and leave it for a few minutes until the wax begins to pool.

Step Five: Place a dried leaf on top of your candle. Hold in place.

Step Six: Dip your paintbrush into the pool of wax in the tea light. Try not to get the brush too close to the flame.

Step Seven: Paint the wax onto the leaf and pillar candle. Repeat this step until the leaf is attached to the candle.

Step Eight: Take the same approach when applying dried flowers and other leaves.
