Now that we have our materials, it’s time to get down to business. Here’s a step-by-step guide to creating your very own tall wall hanging plant stands:

Step 1: Measure Twice, Cut Once

Start by deciding how tall you want your plant stand to be. Measure and mark your pine boards accordingly. Below is a cut list for plant stands that are good for tall, smaller plants in 4” pots.

Cut list:

  • 2x 1×6 Pine Board at 76cm
  • 2x 1×6 Pine Board at 15cm

Step 2: Saw Away!

Once you’ve marked your lumber, it’s time to start cutting. Take your time and make sure your cuts are clean and precise.

Step 3: Pocket Hole Magic

Using your Kreg Jig pocket hole system, create pocket holes on the ends of your shorter pine boards. This will create a super sturdy plant stand so that you can be absolutely sure your plant babies will be safe and protected.

Step 4: Assembly Time

Now comes the fun part – putting it all together! Lay out your pieces and start assembling the rectangular frame of your plant stand using 1 ¼” pocket hole screws.

Step 6: Sand it Smooth

Use an orbital sander and some 80-120 grit sandpaper to level out the pocket hole plugs and any obvious edges. Then move to 220 grit sandpaper to perfect the surface of your stands.

Step 7: Finishing Touches

Once your stand is assembled, you can choose to leave it as is for a natural look or add a coat of wood stain or paint. Get creative and choose something that suits your space and your style. You can also add a cup hook to the top if you would like to use a hanging plant pot.

Step 8: Hang It Up!

Finally, it’s time to hang your plant stand on the wall. Depending on your preference and the weight of your plants, you can use sawtooth hangers or hooks and drywall anchors. Just make sure the hardware you’re using is rated for the weight of the plants and pots you are planning to add.

And there you have it – your very own DIY plant stand. Now all that’s left to do is find the perfect spot for it and start filling it with your favourite leafy friends!
