Tour Walt Disney’s Former Fairy Tale Family Home That Just Hit the Rental Market

Walt Disney was a world-renowned movie producer, animator, innovator and filmmaker of some of the most beloved classic children’s films. He formed the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio with his brother, Roy, and created Mickey Mouse, one of the most recognizable characters on the planet. With the profits from early films starring Mickey Mouse, Disney purchased land in the Los Feliz neighbourhood of Los Angeles in 1932, and built the family home where he and his wife Lillian raised their two daughters. While living in this house, he worked on such films as Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Cinderella and Pinocchio.

Disney worked with architect Frank Crowhurst to design and build this storybook home, which combines French Provincial, Country Tudor and Neo-Gothic styles. The four-bedroom mansion, set over an acre of land, includes a turret, a cobblestone motorcourt and stained glass windows, and boasts the Los Feliz hillside as its backdrop. In 1955, the architecture of the home would become the inspiration for many of the structures at the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim.

The Disney family lived in the home from 1932 to 1950. It’s currently owned by filmmaker and Disney aficionado Timur Bekmambetov, and available for lease at $40,000 USD per month. Let’s take a look inside this legendary, fairy tale family home.
