How to Decorate a Room with Pink, from the Princess of Pink Herself: Tiffany Pratt

Adding pink into every home that I design is not my modus operandi when taking on projects. But, there are many people in the world and many shades of pink. When you find the right one, for the right person, in the right space, it just works!

The trick is to sprinkle the colour throughout in a subtle way with other colours that have a voice! That way your space is telling a story. Make it a part of your colour scheme so that it has buddies and it does not need to be the star of the show. This is a great trick for the person or family that loves pink but needs to incorporate it in a way that is subtle.

What I love about creating healing spaces is that pink is one of the most comforting colours. When applied using fabric, art, lighting or wallpaper, you’ve added a new layer of texture and dimension to the space.

It does not need to be Barbie Malibu pink to be pink, and it can be thrown in with multiple accessories that make a splash but do not take over the room!

I often asked myself, “Who would want to eat in a pink room?” and when I answered myself the response was always, “EVERYONE!” By way of art or a really great shade of pink painted over epic molding-pink is a lighter shade of red and red makes you hungry.

One way to add pink into a space where it is subtle but powerful is art. You can take it down anytime-but it sure makes an impact! I am a huge pusher of making your own art! Anyway you can get art up in your life and up on your walls is good with me!

One thing that I have learned over the years is that pink is like the milkshake, it brings all the boys to the yard. People love pink, our eyes naturally attracted to this colour. In our mostly grey and beige world, pink stands strong. If you want your business to pop or your home to stand out – paint it pink. You will have a swarm of iPhones around you at all times.

If you don’t want to paint your whole house pink, then think of one or two large statement pieces in a shade of pink that can be the pop of colour and fun that you were looking for.

Being bold and splashy with your choices you will heed some very exciting results and create a space that feels more cozy and less pepto.

My Home Depot kitchen in Duchess Dawn pink has been making waves since my renovation last fall. Why? Because who paints their kitchen pink? Me! Why not paint the one room in your house in the most unexpected colour? Think out of the box and out of your comfort zone! I did! This pink was far more dusty than the rest of my house at the time – but it set the tone for the rest of my renovation and now my house is filled in dusty pinks! Take a chance!

I love pink and everything about it in every shade. I have pink in every room of my home in a variety of shades and I don’t care what people think! It makes me happy and I want it all around me in a big way. So own what you love! Even if it is not pink-go for it.

Let this little article be the license you need to go after what you want and paint your whole world in the hue that makes you feel all rosie inside. Being happy and surrounding yourself in your joy is the most important thing!
