3 Ways to Get the Maximalist Look With Pantone’s Colour of the Year, Viva Magenta

3 Ways to Get the Maximalist Look With Pantone’s Colour of the Year, Viva Magenta
Pantone

Attention all decor divas! The new Pantone colour of the year was just announced. According to Pantone, Viva Magenta embodies the natural, physical and digital world. Inspired by countless lifestyle trends, Viva Magenta aims to incorporate more living things into our homes. Viva Magenta is the feeling of fun and whimsy without compromising on softness and grace.

In 2023, the trends show a big shift away from minimalism to subtle maximalism. The focus on bold colours in contrast with dynamic decor is what’s driving upcoming design trends. We expect to see many quirky home decor pieces alongside striking colour schemes for bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms.

Here are three ways to add Viva Magenta into your home to achieve a mastery of modern maximalism.

Subtle Yet Striking Statement Pieces

In most homes, you’ll usually find that one piece of decor that doesn’t quite match the rest. It could be anything from an oddly shaped coffee table to a pink rhino wall mount. Although those statement pieces can seem out of place, you know that, for the most part, they’re intentional.

Viva Magenta, as bold as it may be, requires some commitment. We recommend adding fun and uniquely shaped pieces like colour-themed coat hangers or lampshades. Our personal favourite is this gorgeous doorway mat by Curves.

Bold and Beautiful Houseplants

If only 2023 started off with weather as bright and bold as Viva Magenta. Alas, an easy way to warm up your place is by adding beautifully coloured houseplants. Tulips and orchids add a bit more flair to houseplants, and most can be found in pink shades. There are, however, quite a few hardier houseplants that have purple-pink veining, like the fittonia albivenis aka the nerve plant.

Quirky Wall Art

Who doesn’t love eccentric wall art? Art pieces, however large or small, always have a way of perfectly showcasing a homeowner’s personality. We love art by Canadian artists, and this cute and eclectic cat soiree would be a perfect addition to any home. Viva Magenta fits so elegantly as a background colour vs. the focal point of the painting. We recommend looking for unstated pieces with that Viva Magenta flare.

Viva Magenta is a far departure from Very Peri, last year’s Colour of the Year. However, this majestic pink shade’s bold and deeply rich hues will pair nicely with any of your Very Peri-inspired pieces. We’re sure Viva Magenta’s uniquely inspired palette will find its way into your home.
