Vancouver
based Interior Designer Catherine Yuen joins builders Mickey Fabbiano and
Sebastian Sevallo in Season 2 of Worst to First. Together they
transform ten of the worst houses on the block into wonderful, first-rate homes
in one of the most challenging housing markets in the world.
Growing
up, Catherine could never get enough of drawing, painting, building and making
things. She credits her mother with her love of design because her mom loved to
rearrange their household furniture. As a result, Catherine was inspired to do
the same in her bedroom and liked to see the fresh possibilities that existed
in the same space with the same furniture. In her teens, Catherine and
her mom loved to see the amazing transformations on home renovation shows, and
the two would devour them together.
In
2010, Catherine earned a Bachelor of Arts at the University of British Columbia
in Visual Arts. After traveling throughout Europe, South America and Asia, she
returned to school for a Bachelor of Interior Design at the British Columbia
Institute of Technology. In her third year of the program, Catherine was
part of a three-person team that scored first place in the North American IDEC
Student Design Competition. Their challenge was to ‘Design as an Agent of Social
Change’ and their submission topped more than 100 international entries.
Catherine
focuses on both residential and commercial design and is fascinated by human
behavior and how space, colour, texture and light affect us. Her holistic
design approach provides clients with a space that is both beautiful and
functional, expresses their personality and style, and ensures a positive and
intuitive experience in each environment.
When not working, Catherine loves
running, hiking, snowboarding, and yoga, as well as getting out of the city for
a quick refresh and reset.
