For a more personalized-approach to styling a room, try your hand at your own custom art piece. The trendy half-moon shape and macrame details of this wall piece is sure to transform any room. Follow these step-by-step instructions to make your own.
- 15 inch wooden round
- Fine Grit Sandpaper
- Wood stain
- Staining rag
- Glue gun
Step One: Use clamps to secure the wooden round to your work table, then slowly cut it in half using a jigsaw.
Step Two: Use fine grit sandpaper to sand the edges, and surface of the wood.
Step Three: Apply two to three coats of stain in any finish you’d like. Make sure to apply stain in the direction of the wood grain. Sand lightly between each coat.
Step Four: Cut a 17 inch strand of yarn and tape the edges to your work surface. Since the diameter of the wooden round is 15 inches, a 1 inch strand allots for 1 inch on either side to tape it to your work surface.
Step Five: Cut 50-60 pieces of yarn at about 32 inches, and begin tying them to the 17 inch strand using a lark’s head knot. If you’re using multiple colours of yarn, be sure to count before switching colours so your final design is even.
Step Six: Bring in your wooden half-circle and flip it over so the front is face down.
Step Seven: Use hot glue to attach the 17 inch strand of yarn about ¼ inch from the bottom of the wooden half-circle, leaving an inch on either side.
Step Eight: Flip the wooden half-circle over so the front is facing up.
Step Nine: Trim the yarn into a circle shape. We recommend tracing the other half of the wooden round that was cut in the first step.
Step Ten: Attach your new art piece to the wall using Command strips or removable double-sided tape.
