It was 30 years ago this month that The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air first hit the air. The show told the story of a wisecracking teen (played by Will Smith) from Philly who went to live with his wealthy relatives in posh Bel-Air. In celebration of this three-decade milestone, Smith is offering fans a chance to stay at the actual mansion used for the exterior shots of Uncle Phil’s home in the classic sitcom. Listed on Airbnb, a wing of the iconic mansion is ready to be rented by anyone who’d like to have their lives flipped-turned upside down, to sit on their throne as the prince (or princess) of Bel-Air.

The ‘Fresh Prince’ Mansion
When Will Smith’s character arrived at his new home in Bel-Air, the exterior of this posh Los Angeles mansion was used for establishing shots. While technically not in Bel-Air (it’s actually in nearby Brentwood), Smith is now serving as an Airbnb host, renting out a wing of the place. “Some may say I’ve done it all, but I’ve never opened the doors to a wing of the iconic mansion that helped launch my career,” the actor-rapper writes in the Airbnb listing. “It holds a lot of special memories for me and my friends, and I hope you’ll leave with memories (and a dope handshake!) to last you well beyond your stay.”

“It’s your crib for the night, so feel free to act like you own the place,” writes Smith. “My wing of the mansion includes my bedroom (great for naps), a full bathroom (great for spitting bars in the shower), pool area (great for dips), an outdoor lounge and the dining room (great for eating obviously). And you gotta do it like my guy DJ Jazzy Jeff so don’t forget your sunglasses!” The price for the rental is right; in honour of the 30th anniversary of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the rental cost is a mere $30 per night.

A Bedroom Fit for a (Fresh) Prince
“You’ll have a wing of the manor to yourself from check-in to check-out, with no other guests in the house during your stay (not even a family member from Philly),” notes Smith. “And you can rest easy in your prince…er, KING-size bed knowing that I’ve committed to cleaning prior to your arrival in accordance with Airbnb’s Enhanced Cleaning Protocol, which is informed by guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).”

Among the “royal perks” that Smith mentions in the listing is the opportunity to lace up “a fresh pair of Jordans before shooting some b-ball in the bedroom (you read that right – IN the bedroom).” Other fun Fresh Prince-style activities available to guests include “spinning throwback classics all night on turntables just like DJ Jazzy Jeff’s” and “donning a fly look from my closet, from argyle prepster to all-star athlete – from experience: both at the same time turns heads!”

Will’s Sneaker Collection
“Once you have the keys, the wing is all yours for the evening,” writes Smith, who also reminds guests that “my sneaker collection is off limits, aight?” However, those kicks and a selection of hats can be admired, displayed in a special shrine-like setting.
The ‘Fresh Prince’ Pool
While enjoying the stay, guests are also invited to soak in a little sunshine while chilling poolside on “luxe lounge chairs.” Surrounded by tall trees to provide privacy, the pool boasts its own standalone cabana.
A Little History
According to Realtor.com, the home itself was built in 1937. While guests will only be able to access one wing, the mansion itself boasts five bedrooms, five bathrooms and a whopping 6,438 square feet of interior living space. The last time the home was on the market was way back in 1978, when it sold for $732,000; it would likely sell for about 10 times that amount today.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air bedroom is full of unique personal touches that will be familiar to fans of the show. A few fun examples? There’s a vintage photo of Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff, a couple of boomboxes, a trio of basketballs, a turntable hooked up to old-school speakers and Will’s basketball jersey from Bel-Air Academy, framed and hanging on the wall.
While guests won’t be allowed access to the mansion’s kitchen, they won’t be going hungry. According to Smith, “all meals will be provided and served on silver platters, of course.” And, as this photo illustrates, those meals (perhaps Philly cheesesteak?) will be enjoyed while sitting in a throne-like chair.
A Good Cause
“To celebrate the feeling of family and community that was so memorable from my time in this home, Airbnb will make a one-time donation to a local organization in my hometown, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia,” writes Smith, revealing that the program will help support young people in the city “by offering development and skill-building programs, recreational activities and empowerment tools.”

A Virtual Welcome From DJ Jazzy Jeff
Sadly, Will Smith himself won’t be there to greet guests. However, those who do rent the place will be welcomed (virtually) by Smith’s former rap partner, DJ Jazzy Jeff. As Smith writes, “my socially distanced mansion concierge will greet you upon arrival and give you the lay of the land. That’s why, when you arrive, we just ask that you wear a mask and keep six feet of social distance.” The place will only be available for a limited time (October 2, 5, 8, 11 and 14), and only for residents of Los Angeles county.

A Virtual Experience
For those who won’t have the opportunity to book a stay at the Fresh Prince mansion, DJ Jazzy Jeff has got you covered by offering a virtual Airbnb experience, “Spin & Scratch Like a Hip-Hop Legend.” In this online experience, he explains that he’ll “talk you through some of the routines that transformed my music career and teach you a thing or two about where I think the art of DJing is heading.” The DJ adds that, “And if you’re just looking for a great beat, I’ve got you covered, too. I’ll put on a killer show… exclusively for you. So be ready.”
