Step 1: Drill Holes

First, start by drilling your wooden base where you’ll later place the candles. Using a drill and a bit that matches the candle width, drill holes into the base carefully, making sure they are deep enough to hold the candles securely. Remove the dust and clean the base as soon as you finish creating the holes.

Step 2: Cut Half Moon MDF Pieces

To complete the candleholder base, use a jigsaw to cut two half moon shapes that will be glued on either side of the wooden base we just drilled. Use construction glue to securely attach the MDF shapes to each side of the base and align them properly by adding pressure with your fingers.

Step 3: Time for Spray Paint

It’s time to decorate your candleholder now! In a well-ventilated area and wearing protective gear, spray paint the entire candleholder base including the interior sides. Let the first coat dry and then apply a second coat for better coverage.

Step 4: Decorating Fun

While the paint is drying, take your colourful felt sheets and cut them into organic shapes in a free-form style using your scissors. Glue them to the half moon MDF covers on both sides with a hot glue gun. Then, place your beautiful pride-coloured candles into their holes to finish off this adorable DIY candle holder.

Tips:

  • For a smoother finish, you can lightly sand the half moon MDF pieces between each coat of spray paint.
  • Feel free to experiment with different shapes and sizes of the felt decorations (you can even create a rainbow — personalize your design as much as you can).
  • If you’re new to drilling, we suggest that you start practicing on a scrap piece of wood before you jump to the final base to ensure you get the holes just right.
