Wood You
Conventional wisdom says (and the inevitable wayward water splashes would seem to confirm) that a bathroom floor must be tiles – but not so. With more and more water-resistant wood products being manufactured, wood flooring has found its way into the bathroom – and it’s not going anywhere.

Bed, Bath and Beyond
As walls between bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms shrink, and doors disappear altogether, a new bathroom-design trend for 2022 is emerging – the opening up of open-concept living. Toilets tend to still be tucked away but bathtubs, showers and sinks have come out into the open.

Showered With Love
When it comes to bathroom design, bathtubs have been hogging the spotlight for too long. In 2022, you’ll be seeing showers coming out of the corners and hitting centre stage to finally get the attention they deserve. Add in custom LED lighting, multiple multifunction shower heads, and made-to-last elements, such as the Hytec Kendale™ Shower Base from Splashes Bath & Kitchen, and it’s no wonder showers are the new stars of the bathroom-design show.

Paper Mate
While the singular wallpaper statement wall in bathroom design has been around for years, in 2022 we’ll see that trend expand to all walls. Covering the entire bathroom in a bold statement wallpaper creates a uniquely intimate space that remains thematically separate from the rest of the house, making it feel extra special.

How Does Your Garden Grow
We all know that plants in the bathroom can help absorb moisture, freshen the air and also add a layer of pleasing green to the design aesthetic. But in 2022, bathroom design is going beyond a couple potted fiddle-leaf figs – it’s going full gardener. Built-in planters, living green walls and integrated courtyards are just a few of the green-thumb elements being integrated.

Spa Like Spaces
As many of us spend more time at home, having a relaxing space in which to retreat from work, family and obligations is at the top of the bathroom-design trend wish list. Think a warm, bubble-and-lavender filled bathtub, built-in sound systems playing soothing pan-flute music, and rustic baskets topped with neatly rolled Turkish towels.

Wet and Wild
A staple in European bathrooms since indoor plumbing was first introduced, the wet room has finally crossed The Pond and is making big waves in bathroom design. A wet room is basically a regular bathroom, expect everything is waterproof and the shower is out in the open. GROHE Retrofit 260 Shower System from Splashes Bath & Kitchen is ideal for a wet room upgrade, as it can be added to any existing showerhead without having to change the in-wall plumbing.

Mount Up
Bathroom vanities are on the move… up the wall. Floating, wall-mounted vanities is the latest bathroom trend that has real staying power. Not only do these raised beauties add minimalist elegance to a space but they also make cleaning the floor that much easier, which is always a plus.

New Industrialists
Yes, industrial design has been around for decades, but in 2022 (and beyond!) it’s getting a modern update. Concrete, metal and wood still reign as the top industrial-design materials but they’re softer, lighter and are thoughtfully mixed to create a more contemporary look.

Buy Organic
The organic trend is moving out the grocer and into the bathroom – in 2022, bathroom design will be filled with organic shapes and colours: egg-shaped bathtubs, round vessel sinks, and nature-inspired greys, creams and browns. Add in soft atmospheric lighting and curving fixtures and we’re fully bought in.
