There are three types of people in this world. Those who workout, those who don’t, and those who lie on their yoga mat for 10 minutes, pedal aimlessly on their spin bike for eight minutes, scroll through their phone and then call it a workout. A group of students at China’s Dalian Nationalities University have designed a spin bike for the third set, that’ll force them to complete a full workout, and all while doing their laundry. Here’s how it works: the BiWa, or Bike Washing Machine, is a stationary bicycle with a washing machine drum in the front wheel. Pedaling turns the drum and generates electricity to power the monitor; surplus electricity is stored for future use in the battery.
“Bike Washing Machine combines a stationary bicycle and washing machine, you can exercise while at the same time simultaneously washing your clothes.”
“When you ride this bike, the pedaling motion causes the drum of the washing machine to rotate, at the same time, the superfluous electricity is generated which can be used to power the display screen or stored for future use.”
No word on how long you’ll need to pedal to wash a full load, but we can bet it’s longer than the eight minutes we’ve been averaging…
