Scott McGillivray: 11 Things You Didn’t Know

Scott McGillivray: 11 Things You Didn’t Know

Scott McGillivray is a busy man! With his filming schedule between Income Property and Canada’s Handyman Challenge, along with many speaking appearances and writing books, he’s also a husband to his wife Sabrina and father to his two beautiful girls, Myah and Layla. There’s so much we see of him in the public eye, but what about the man behind the camera?

With Income Property entering its 9th season, premiering Thursday, April 3rd at 10pm ET|PT, I realized after nine seasons that there’s still so much to learn about McGillibabe! So, in an interview recently, I asked him about himself.

Here are some fun trivia tidbits I found out about Scott McGillivray that you may not have known:

  1. Hidden talent: Well I’m super strong. I try not tell people this. Because you know, with great powers comes great responsibilty (laughs). I like running, I do a lot running on the side, people don’t know that. I can stick my stomach out like a pregnant person, that is something that I’ve always been able to do, as a young child. And I’m still good at it. When my wife was nine months pregnant, we had a tummy competition when the photographer was at the house taking maternity pictures. And so, I took a picture with my stomach sticking out further than my wife’s when she was nine months pregnant! Also, surfing, I love surfing. I can walk on my hands.Scott-Surfing
  2. Favourite colour and number: Blue. My favourite number is seven, I was born on the 7th in the 70s.
  3. Favourite season: Summer. Scott-and-Daughter-Pool
  4. How many siblings do you have: Two, a brother and a sister. I’m the middle kid.
  5. Best vacation you ever took: Backpacking in Costa Rica.
  6. How do you take your coffee: Medium, regular.
  7. Favourite subject in school: Mine’s math for sure.
  8. The one item you can’t live without: My family. But one item I can’t live without right now is my phone, unfortunately. It kills me, I feel like naked. I would turn around no matter how far from home I was if I forgot my phone. And if I lost my phone, I’d probably lose my mind.
  9. What was your first car? First car I bought was a blue 1994 Ford Escort. We used to call it the Escorsche… it was half Escort, half Porsche, and it was amazing.
  10. What was your first job as a child? I mean I had a paper route when I was a kid, but the first time I was employed was at a garden centre in the summer when I was in Gr. 7 and 8. We moved to Richmond Hill from Toronto, and in our neighbourhood there was nothing but farmer’s fields around us. We weren’t allowed to leave the block as a kid, so my buddy and I would drive around – there was a hockey arena over here, and a garden centre on the corner there. They were the only two things we could go to, so we became obsessed with hockey and with the garden centre. The garden centre people knew we always came in once a week, so in the summer they were like, “Do you guys want to work here?” And I was like, “Yeah, I love plants!” I ended up working there every summer when I was a kid.Scott-Gardening
  11. What’s the most shocking thing you’ve discovered in a clients home: I mean we’ve found a lot of stuff, grow-ops up in attics, old money but not a lot of it. But one time we opened up this wall, I found a bottle of booze in the wall with just a little bit of booze in it and a cork still in the top. On the front of the bottle it said, “Andrew got wasted here in 1903.” And I thought that was cool that he used the word “wasted,” over a hundred years ago, and left that bottle in the wall. So the homeowner put it on the mantle.
