There’s nothing more illustrative of Hollywood’s circle of life than when one star buys a home from another star. Case in point: Oprah Winfrey, who already owns a sprawling $88 million mansion in Montecito, just plunked down nearly $7 million to buy a nearby home being sold by Oscar-winner Jeff Bridges of The Big Lebowski fame. And while Bridges’ place may not be quite as spectacular as Winfrey’s estate, it looks like she’s bought herself a pretty sweet place.
The Dude Abides
For the past few decades, the Dude has been abiding in this historic three-bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom 1919 Spanish revival-style compound sitting on four garden-filled acres, boasting four separate structures, all designed by acclaimed architect James Osborn Craig. On the market since the spring, Oprah Winfrey recently purchased the place for a reported $6.85 million.

The expansive living room features stunning beamed ceilings and a massive wood-burning fireplace – one of five in the home. French doors throughout allow pretty much every room in the home to access the picturesque gardens.

A Sense of Space

“This is a 100-year-old compound, yet it’s completely restored,” Sally Hanseth, a family friend and the home’s listing agent, told Realtor.com. “It has so much soul and is exactly where you would imagine Jeff living.”
With wood-beamed ceilings above and honey-hued hardwood floors, the master bedroom offers such amenities as double French doors leading outside and a corner-set wood-burning fireplace.
While it’s not known what plans Winfrey has for the place – if she ever does decide to spend a night in her new home – she’ll be faced with a tough choice in the master bathroom: a soak in the huge freestanding tub, or a session in the glass-enclosed steam shower?
Closet Space Galore
While Bridges’ Dude in The Big Lebowski seemed to own only a few items of clothing, Bridges’ walk-in closet has an endless supply of storage.

Whether it’s used as a guest room or a bedroom for another family member, this quaint bedroom – one of the home’s three – is loaded with heritage charm.
Adjacent in a separate structure adjacent to the pool is this large office/library/family room, with sliding glass doors designed to create seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Garage … and More
The huge garage offers plenty of space for parking, and realtor Sally Hanseth tells Realtor.com that one of the additional structures on the property is a 5,000-square-foot barn where Bridges likes to meditate, paint and perform with his band – a space she describes as “the perfect man cave.”

A central courtyard sits in the centre of the compound’s buildings, with mature trees offering shade, while a fire pit and an al fresco dining setup encourage outdoor entertaining.
Speaking with Realtor.com, Hanseth case the home’s location is truly unique. “It’s back from any road, surrounded by massive estates,” she says. “It’s incredibly private and quiet, with acres of walking paths through oak and redwood groves. It’s like a mindful meditation oasis away from everything.”
Naturally the home has a swimming pool, offering a relaxing respite for any stressed-out celebrity.

In addition to the main house, the garage, the poolhouse and Bridges’ bar, the property also includes this one-bedroom detached guesthouse.
Jeff Bridges is also something of an equestrian, and the compound also boasts its own gated horse stables.
