We couldn’t renovate this home without paying homage to its character, age and style! Mid-century from top to bottom, we modernized the dated kitchen with all of the high-end appliances and features of a dream kitchen, while maintaining a retro flair.
Bleached walnut upper cabinets contrast with white lowers, but by keeping the doors flat-panel, we achieved a more streamlined look. Texture came in the form of contrasting herringbone floors and a super-subtle 3D backsplash. But as with everything else, we kept it modern and clean by matching the grout to the white tile and pairing it with a quartz counter in a similar tone.
Despite the long, semi-narrow footprint, we were careful to keep the proportions right in this space and ensured each wall felt balanced. From the sink with a view to the massive appliance garage (tucked behind a wall of pocket door cabinetry which can be closed) we gave the homeowners a kitchen that not only functions better, but looks good while doing it.
