Bending Baseboards:
Not all walls are straight. So when we add baseboards to curved walls they need to bend too. But you can’t take a 3/8 piece of wood and bend it naturally. So what a pro will do is make a series of cuts along the back of the baseboard. These cuts are called back cuts. And not only do they need to have a certain depth, but the spacing between the cuts have to be somewhat consistent. That let’s the baseboard bend with the wall without snapping. When you hire the right pro you get the right result-a slick finish that looks great.
Securing Transitions Between Flooring:
When tiling, we sometimes need to add a second layer of subfloor underneath to even out the floor. That can cause a difference in height compared to the rest of the flooring. You want a transition between flooring that brings you down nice and smooth-that way you never stub your toes. Usually we use a piece of hardwood. Most people will just nail it down. The problem is that the more you walk over that transition piece, the more you can manipulate and move it. But if you glue it first, the nails will tack it in place and the glue will bond it-so it never moves.
