12 Things You Didn’t Know About Chip and Joanna Gaines

A big congrats to Chip and Jo, who welcomed a sweet baby boy, Crew Gaines, into the world on June 23, 2018. Their newborn son is the couple’s fifth child. “We couldn’t be more in love,” Joanna wrote on Instagram. “He made an unexpected (and speedy) entrance into the world two and a half weeks early – which is fitting given he was a sweet surprise from day one. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. We are so grateful.”

Chip fell in love with Joanna after seeing a picture of her at the auto body shop her father owned, which he kept on the wall behind the counter.

On the other hand, Joanna fell for Chip because of his sense of humour. “At first, I couldn’t believe how kind Chip was – he had kind eyes, and made me laugh a lot… I knew he was the one because I knew I could trust him.”

Joanna told us that their kids love spending time outdoors. “They love being outside, they love farm animals and they are sure to always keep things interesting around here.”

Joanna secretly wanted to be on TV when she was a kid, though it was in the broadcast journalism form. “I always dreamed of the idea of television, but never thought it would have to do with design or renovations.”

Meanwhile, Chip dreamt of becoming a baseball player or a politician.

Joanna is a strict budget tracker and keeper. When she shops at flea markets, she’s all about the good deals. “I always go with a budget in mind, so I don’t get carried away… When I find something I like, I first determine the value and what I will spend on it before I look at the price tag.”

Joanna’s favourite room when she’s at home is the kitchen. “It’s the heart of the home for me… No matter how much is going on, I don’t feel overwhelmed because the palette is very clean and fresh. I love the farmhouse sink, and I love looking out the window at the animals and cows while I work.”

On the other hand, Chip loves to spend time in his boys’ rooms. It’s a space that suits their active lifestyle; it comes complete with a basketball hoop!

When the two are apart, they try to keep the romance alive by hiding love notes in each other’s overnight bags. Chip even keeps them! “I have a pile of them from over the years.”

Chip’s first home flip happened in college, while Joanna caught the reno bug from her hubby. “Once I caught onto the concept of buying something that is undervalued and then putting value into it before selling it for a profit, I was hooked, too.”

The one thing the duo and their family don’t own, ironically, is a TV! “We didn’t buy a TV when we first got married, and we have yet to buy one,” Joanna says.
