See How a Rundown Space Transforms Into a Colourful Beachside Beauty

The goal for staging this beachside home was to make it feel nice and inviting the moment you walked in – mission accomplished, Scott McGillivray. The soft blues of the living room work well with the taupes and beiges found in the connecting kitchen.

Scott and his Buyers Bootcamp partners decided to keep the open fireplace – a rarity in Southwest Florida – but give it a major upgrade, with new natural stone and built-ins on either side for books and found treasures.

Thanks to some walls coming down, what was once a galley-style kitchen is now a brand-new, open-concept cooking space with an expansive island. To help make the kitchen the centrepiece of the home, Scott opted for large, creative tile for the somewhat small backsplash, giving the space the big impact it needed.

By keeping all fixtures in the same location, Scott was able to save money on plumbing when refurbishing the main bathroom. The large dark-grey hex tiles ground this all-white space, while the beach-inspired turquoise shower curtain and accessories remind us that we’re still in sunny Florida.

Scott went with bold blue for the walls and bed linens to really grab the attention of potential buyers and make sure they went home talking about this completely redone master bedroom.

By removing one of the hall closets, Scott was able to add a gorgeous walk-in shower to the master ensuite. The brass hardware, along with the under-vanity and mirror lighting, lend this space a hotel-like quality, where every detail has been thoughtfully considered with design in mind.

In the second bedroom, Scott decided to paint original wood paneling and turn it into a feature wall behind the bed. The abstract rug pulls together colours from the beach – sand, blue and yellow – which are then toned down slightly by the greige wall and muted tones of the bed linens.

Thanks to Scott’s vision and investment of US$80K, they were able to add a new roof, repaint, landscape and completely refresh the home’s interior. After four days on the market, it sold for US$345K, giving the team a profit of $65K.
