Tommy Smythe

Tommy Smythe

Tommy Smythe is Sarah Richardson's aptly dubbed "design sidekick" in Sarah's Cottage, a new mini-series for HGTV. Tommy has worked with Sarah as an integral member of her design team for over six years. He has proven himself to be Sarah's indispensable, quick to quip confidant and renovation partner in crime.

Everyone needs a sounding board when tackling a full-scale, to-the-rafters renovation, and who better than a man with a passion for the good life? Equal parts drama, high style and super-organized site manager, Tommy is who you want on your team to help juggle the daily chaos that comes with renovations, especially on a remote island where lattes are a distant desire.

Tommy's quick wit and larger than life personality are the perfect foil to a woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to ask for it. His reactive personality and Sarah's unwavering focus combine into a magnetic chemistry. Viewers love the he said/she said tension of two headstrong creative individuals battling out their ideas on screen. Tommy is the traditional to Sarah's contemporary, the high to her low, the storm to her calm, and bobs happily at the epicentre of the whirlwind that is Sarah's Cottage.

Tommy has spent the past 10 years honing his appreciation of fine art and antiques, and managing numerous entire home renovations. With Sarah's influence he has grown to appreciate the more contemporary approach to design. He has even so slightly begun to embrace the notion that a bargain isn't a bad thing!

When not working from dawn to dusk managing dozens of trades and racking up his cell phone bill, Tommy can be found spending his few spare moments of down time scouring antiques markets in New York and Palm Beach and augmenting his impeccable designer wardrobe.
