Borrowing from the richness of nature, Sarah and Tommy create a living room and outdoor deck that celebrate a sweeping panoramic view, a front row seat to amazing sunsets!

I can't wait for the first episode! Sarah always has great ideas.
My Husband and I are 'snowbirds',but we keep track of you Sarah during the winter!Congratulations on the your new additions[baby and new show!]We marvel at your ability to be relevent to our kids and to the'old folks'.Looking forward to coming home and seeing your cottage through your eyes.p.s.our son just bought an island too!
Love what you do to houses - can't wait to see the cottage - however - very curious as to its location. Looks like similar background to our family cottage. We have many stories to tell regarding the challenges of transporting building materials back & forth to an island location. Particularly trying when you do roofs etc. (Stripe the shingles, carry down to dock, put in boat, drive to town, carry to vehicle, put in vehicle, drive to dump, unload!
Congratulations of your "New Addition"I am absolutely your greatest fan. We are an older couple who love, love your designing abilities. We just build our first home and now we are nenovating our cottage for our family. I hope to be inspired by your new cottage series, and I just know that I will be.Cheers
We have a two acres of rocky sloping waterfront on a small westcoast island awaiting a cottage, so I can't wait to learn from your "mistakes" ... or rather brilliance!
No, I am absolutely your greatest fan LOL. Can't wait to see you work your magic on your Georgian Bay cottage. I live in this neck of the woods and have always heard you had a cottage out on the bay. Need any Georgian Bay art to decorate your cottage as I am a local fine artist and mural artist.
Can't wait for the new series and more great design ideas.
I have seen Sarah's shows since day one-I felt like I grew up with her!! She and her work have evolved into more beauty and perfection! Sarah and her teams remind us its good to have humour, style and class! Look forward to all your future shows and endeavors
I have been looking at your shows since room service. I use to be a hair stylist and now I'm a designer in Montreal. I would love to work with you any time, If ever you have work and projects going on in montreal. Love to be part of the team.
Again Sarah will make it the perfect space. She's got it for sure! In my mind the best designer ever. Her team is also the Best! Can't wait to see and tape all those episodes. And by the way, GREAT haircut. You look wonderful.
Gotta love Sarah and Tommy they make the perfect duo, their shows are always so entertaing and humerous. I can't wait to see what the cottage turns out like. All the best!
Sarah love your designs and rooms. Just a shame that the Shows I get to see, are so far behind. So have to get my fix on the internet. I live in Geelong, Australia and wish you could do what you do here.
Love your designs, but most of all... in this 'doom and gloom' environment, I look to your show(s) for inspiration and laughter. You and Tommy are a hilarious duo. I love the way you keep it 'light' and make it look so easy! Congratulations on your success and I look forward to many more seasons.ps: You've inspired me so much, I've opened my own Design Co. Thank you!
Love your show Sarah look forward to the new cottage episodes. My husband is retiring this year and we are planning some renovations to our cottage. I know I will find inspiration in the new show. Can't wait.
I have been a fan of Sarah's since way back and she never ceases to surprise me, Can hardly wait for next show to begin,
I have been watching Sarah's shows for some years now and can't wait for some new episodes. Her designs are amazing and the tips and advice given on her show and here online are very helpful(Specialy when renovating my own 100 year old salt box)Keep up the great work.
Hi Sarah, I watch your show's so much I'm dying for new one's. Kenora is cottage country! Come summer are little city swells with people from Canada and the U.S.A. I have used alot of your ideas and plan to learn alot more in the future.Good Luck with the new series.
Hi Sarah and team :) I've always liked the shows since I stumbled upon it a lil over a year ago. I have to say that you and your team have enspired me to go back to school to become a future interior designer such as yourselves.thank you very much and keep up the awesome work.:D
Just thought I would say that I took part in the work that took place before the cameras came in.
I'm so excited for this show! Sarah is the best designer/tv personlity! She's so awesome, can't wait!
My husband and I love Sarah. She's not your typical designer who goes over the top with everything. She is down to earth and everything she does is achievable for everyone. Can't wait to see what she does with the cottage!
After two years of looking you helped me find the perfect light fixture for my dining room. The blown glass chandelier in "Sarah's House"masterbedroom is to die for. I was able to locate it locally and am now a proud owner! Can"t wait for your new show!
I can't wait for the new show. I live on Lake Erie, Cottage Country of South Ontario. I love Sarah's designs! When she does a room you know you'll be able to achive a similar look yourself. Can't wait to see what she has up her sleeve this time! I know I'll use some of her idea in my own Lake Cottage.
Sarah is my all time favorite designer! Everything she does is very fresh, very clean and very livable. You can always see yourself living in her designs! VERY EXCITED FOR THE NEW SHOW!!
Can you see me doing the Happy Dance here in the Nation's Capitol? Sarah and Tommy rock!
Started watching Sarah at the time of "Room Service". Still watching the best of the best through Design Inc., two houses and very much looking forward to the cottage episodes. Tommy is a scream...Love it!
I would like to know if and when Sarah will be able to answer decoating questions from the viewers who watch her show. Word is that Sarah will not even consider any new shows unless the budget is way above the norm. What can someone with a modest budget and would like Sarah's opinion do to get a response from her. Would greatly appreciate any comments or suggestion thrown my way.
nice
My wife and I loved Sarah's House. Just 10 minutes before Sarah's Cottage debuts. Where's the red wine and a VCR? But seriously... We can't wait. Thanks Sarah for some great Tuesday night viewing.
Lovely living room, although a bit short on the design element. Can't wait to see more idea when her bathrooms/kitchen are being done.
I love ALL of your shows. We recently purchased a cottage up North and will begin the demolition/renovation project soon. My husband doesn't want me to watch your new "cottage" show because he knows he'll be in for more work. LOL I can't wait!
Have been a fan of Sarah's for quite a while now (Room Service?) as I've always found something in whatever she's done that I could use myself. Agree with previous comments that her and Tommy make a great team. New show is great - especially as it is still very snowy and cold here so seeing the lake and the sun was wonderful. On reflection my first comment may be why I like her shows so much. Can't always do what she does - budget, suppliers, my taste, etc. - but ALWAYS get an idea that can be translated to my use. So thanks for the great show and can't wait to see the rest of the cottage done!
I've been thinking for a while now that HGTV needed a cottage series and so glad Sarah is doing it. I enjoyed the episode but would love it if Sarah could do a breakdown at the end of each episode with length of time, material and labour costs, tips and things like that. Re the design - it was nice although a bit crowded and didn't lend itself to "putting your feet up" in my opinion. Also assume the doors to the deck will not be used ... there's furniture in front of them!Looking forward to all the episodes very much!!
Love Sarah's shows, but have to laugh at the candlesticks on the coffee table. With a toddler running around those towering candlesticks would last thirty seconds in my house before being stashed away.
Hi Sarah, Congratulations on number 2. Looking forward to the Cottage Show. I am part of the older group who loves your shows. Been watching them since Room Service. Keep up the great inspirations and gearing designs to all groups and ages.
Wow, absolutely beautiful setting! Is it just me or was this cottage project overlapping with Sarah's House 2? That is ambitious, but with beautiful results. We are in the process of building our own cottage and believe me, I will be taking lots of notes! I am so happy this cottage series is on! Yay Sarah!
Hi Sarah, I watched the first episode of Sarah's Cottage last night and loved it. What a gorgeous setting. Your design talent is amazing, and I have gotten so many great ideas from your shows. I do love watching you and Tommy in action, you make a great team, although I have to admit I do miss Design Inc. and the rest of the group. I'm hoping you will bring the Design Inc. team back at some point. Congratulations and all the best with your growing family.
Yes this season was also taped at the same time as Sarah's House 2. Just like the last season of Design Inc (4) was done during the first season on Sarah's House.Very ambitious. Must be crazy hectic.
Seems like eons ago we started watching Room Service, and have been awestruck and inspired with everything you've done since then. I am especially thankful that you like to keep it inexpensive....and always look for the bargain.Congratulations on yet another fabulous series!!Best wishes to you and your increasing family. I am retired now and love watching the re-runs of Design Inc in the morning with my coffee...always pick up another idea for my (ever) ongoing renos.
Oh my goodness, this is so me! I am yet another one of your greatest fans along with so many of my friends! When I win the lottery I am definitely getting Sarah to 'do' my house. I love her style, taste and colours. I have yet to see something I did not like. Can't wait to watch the cottage series. I am having a problem finding out the start date. HELP!
OOPS! I was so blown away with all the wonderful pictures that I didn't realise all I had to do was click on schedule and I would get all the dates of each show.
I just love Sarah, I have been watching her for a very long time even before "Sarah's Home" She is the best designer ever and would love her to do my house over
I've always loved Sarah's various series but I found the 'extension' premiere episode a bit offputting with respect to the special order windows that she couldn't live with. I hate to think how much that "I have to change them" decision cost her and I'm sure she can well afford them, but in these bleak economic times, it just seemed a bit over the top to me, and perhaps could have been edited out.BUT it is going to be another great series, in a gorgeous locale.
Dear Donna,I believe Sarah made the right desicn about the windows and that I a glad they showed it. Everybody has to make descions and she wanted it down right the first time.
Watched the first show and look forward to the rest of the series. Sarah Richardson always has fantastic shows. I watched all the episodes of Sarah's House - both series. I'm not keen on Design Inc. though.
I like the new show (I've liked all of them in fact) but why is the promotion of it so confusing? It seemed like it was being presented as a one-off rather than a series. The new Holmes on Homes is confusing in the same way. HGTV really needs to straighten out it's promotional materials. Anyway, I trust there will be other shows in the weeks to come!
great show, thanks for the info
Will the episode be posted on the website like previous seasons? Unfortunately I don't have hgtv :(Thanks,Amanda
Watched the first show and personally, although lovely, I found the "cottage" more of a country home. It is easy to buy all new furniture and windows but I would like to see some ideas of using what is already there and how to recycle......thanks
I am a fan of Sarah's shows and her design work. My husband and I are also in the process of improving/renovating our cottage on a much smaller budget than Sarah's. While the living room addition is very lovely, I found it impractical. Cottages are places to let loose and relax. If our cottage living area contained that furniture I would be constantly worried about it getting dirty. My two year old nephew would have to be hosed down outside before coming in. Also agree with Deborah's comment about the candlesticks. They wouldn't last long with my nephew either.
Hi Amanda, we will be posting the videos in the video section (hidden until Monday April 6) the week after each new episode airs on television. Check back next week to watch the first episode. Cheers! HGTV.ca Editorial Team
Thank you for the response. I'm looking forward to it!
Love the cottage and enjoyed the first episode (however, I would say that the living room looks like a furniture store). I appreciate that Sarah is willing to show that even she can make a mistake (missing the config of the windows). Can you tell me what is the ratio of paint to water used for the whitewash of the interior wood walls? I see that Sarah used ICI Dulux paint (color Stratosphere). Thanks.
You have made my dream home. I love it. You have inspired me to keep working hard so that someday I will have a home like this to share with my family and friends.Diana
Will it be possible at any point to get the floor plan for this cottage?Beautiful! Can't wait for the rest of the episodes!
Yum .... I loved the first Sarah's Cottage episode ..have actually watched it twice. I am BIG fan of Sarah's and have been watching her since Room Service as well. It is so great to see someone with such talent, honesty and personality plus we know that what we see hasn't been sourced in New York or California- it's accessible. Kudos to Tommy too.
I am amazed by the talent of Sarah and her team. Perfect design, every time. Classy & humorous, this is what reality TV should be.
Rustic???!!!
Here's the quote: "It's got to be rustic, relaxing and at one with the stunning scenery in which it is enveloped."
I agree this isn't a cottage, but a second home. Although I love Sarah's shows & designs, this room wouldn't last a day with my husband, slobbery dog & nephews! I am interested to see the shows about the other rooms though, cause my hubby did work there. Luv u Sarah & Tommy!
I love the show as well. Sarah and Tommy are very talented and a great team. The only problem I have with the cottage episode is seeing everyone boating without a lifejacket. Having lost 5 members of my family (kids and adults) to 5 different drowning accidents I know the importance of wearing a PFD anytime and anywhere on the lakes, oceans and rivers. Having such a huge audience and impact on people, beauty is great but surely safety should come first! M-F
I can't imagine how much you spent on "fixing" those windows. How can someone with any moral conscience spend so much money on such a trivial thing. The next time you want to spend that much money please contact me and I will send you a list of well deserving charities - some that feed children - instead of caring about matching windows.
Stephanie - get over yourself - it's a TV show made for viewing.
Beautiful as per usual! Always an inspriation...especially as i will be building a new house this spring!
I agree with melissa get over yourself stephine the fact is its a design show and sarah is a good person she just wanted to fix her mistake.
Stephanie, How would you know how much she already does or does not donate to charity? That window mistake likely did not cost more than a few thousand dollars, if that. It was a glass error, not the entire window, and was only for a portion of the cottage. Not her biggest fan and wouldn't judge her character by what I see on tv, one way or the other, but can't get over your assumptions. Here is a link to prove to you just one example of something she has done for charity. http://www.styleathome.com/homes/interiors/sarah-richardson-s-lottery-home-makeover/a/1955
Stephanie, it's a tv show. it is supposed to inspire us. it has to be perfect. you don't even know her and you judge her. Like she said : do it once, do it right and if you do it wrong, do it again. Sarah, this room is georgous, i love it sooo much. you are so talented, you are a real source of inspiration... don't matter about people who complain :)
I am a HUGE fan of Design inc, Sarah's House and Sarah's Cottage. There has not been one design that i have not loved. If only there were episodes online so if any were missed i could watch them. Sarah, you are so talented (and beautiful) and Tommy, i love your humor. You two are great!!
I would like to know the ratio of paint to water used for the whitewash of the interior wood walls? Is glaze or water used (or both)? Bravo for your show !
Hi Sarah...LOVE your work. I always tell my husband that someday I will have a big home and Sarah is going to decorate it for me! heheheKeep up the beautiful work...and thanks for entertaining me.P.S. I love the chemistry between you and Tommy.
Lisa New Brunswick...you can watch episodes online. Click on "Watch the Show" at the right side of this page.
My partner and I are renovating our cottage right now... you 2 are an inspiration ! Can't wait to see the kitchen.Keep buying houses...
Like Lynda and France, I too would love to know the "whitewash recipe" as I am planning to do the same paint treatment to my pine tongue and groove "nautical" inspired bedroom. Love the show!
Sarah I love you, great ideas, fantastic designs...I think Tommy needs hs own show, he's awesome !! Love the show guy's, great job.
What's your dog's name? - he's cute!
Does anyone know what paint colors were used on the exterior window trim and also the body of the house???
Hi there huge fan of Sarahs decorating, i took a couple decorating courses , and do some decorating also, but where i am located is not ideal , but i love watching Sarah for ideas , if i had lots of money to spend i would have her do my house for sure.
Sarah! I am ADDICTED to this show.I love the patterns you picked for the furniture in the living room and adore what you did in the bathroom (marble!) and guest bed rooms (painting the wood was a good choice!). I would love to be a guest at your cottage! Is my invite in the mail? I think this show is the only thing that I look forward to at the moment - I am in the midst of exams and I watch your show as my study break :) I cannot wait to see the remainder of the season!
Twenty years ago we whitewashed pine walls in a kitchen at the cottage. The ratio was 50/50 water and white latex. It was painted on and wiped off after several minutes, then coated with clear semigloss. The finish stood up to the kitchen splashes and had the added bonus of retarding the yellowing of the pine which would happen under a clear finish alone. It still looks great!
I could not wait for the series to start and you continue to exceed expectations! We just built a cottage in the Kawarthas which includes a sunporch that is scarily similar to your storm room but I'm sure I'll steal a few ideas from you after seeing each episode multiple times. Enjoy...and you and Tommy make a GREAT team...love the humor.
I wish so much I could view the new shows in the U.S. I happened upon this blog while searching for updates on Sarah's family and saw so many beautiful pictures. Unfortunatly, the videow clips were "not available in your country". I live in a cottage on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, NY. Does anyone know how I can access either the TV shows, Sarah's Home or Sarah's Cottage in the U.S.?
Love the show! Living in cottge country this gives me lots of ideas.Sarahs design and colours are exception look forward to the rest of the cottage renovation
I absolutely love your show(s) - watch Disign Inc every am as I get ready for work, watch every Tues, both Design Inc and now the wonderful cottage show. I redesign my life and home vicariously as I watch your show...and Andrew, I'm with you red is best!!!! I can't wait to watch your kitchen and bunkie episodes...My husband however, does not share my enthusiasm for your show. He is a builder by trade and knows that every time I watch I begin to envisage 'changes' around our home...and he knows who will be called in to facilitate these changes. He certainly does not appreciate your nuances for detail...he just sees them as more changes for him...
Love watching all shows featuringSarah Richardson.....by far the best offering from HGTV. Two suggestions...1.) if Sarah's shows are so poP***r why not make it an hour long format? I'm sure there's enough tape shot to stretch it out into a longer format. I'm always left with the feeling the viewer could have learned more and in my opinion we don't see enough of the finished product. My thoughts are if Sarah provides even more tips along the way in a longer program it helps all us do it yourselfers on our own homes 2.) I miss Design Inc. show format too and understand there likely won't be more of these to come according to Sarah's revamped website. So why doesn't HGTV find another designer to carry on this format of renovating a room from start to finish? Surely there must be other talented designers who could do this type of show....how about Jacquie Glass? Also why doesn't HGTV air Divine Design with Candice Olsen...she's hilarious. Enjoy Peter Fallico as well on Home to Stay and Home to Flip. I find the Pure Design show a little eclectic for my taste. Not sure if it is just me, but everything furniture, colour choices, etc just seems so random. Just my two cents.
Hi all, I too am a huge fan of Sarah's, and watch all of her shows. I was just wondering what happened to Andrew, the carpenter she used in the first season of Sarah's House? Not that I dont like Vito's work, but I was just wondering???
Lori, my basic guess would be that Vito, like dufferent contractors work in certain areas and Iguess since he was working in Sarah's House 2 at the sae time, I guess the cottage was also part of the works. Maybe if her third house is set back downtown, we shall see Andrew again.
I think Vito was working on Sarah's House 2, but it doesnt matter. Both contractors do excellent work, as of course Sarah does too! Does anybody have any idea when Sarah's House 3 will start? I cant wait for that!
I was wondering if there are any antique stores in the Saskatoon or Edmonton areas that sell antiques like the one Sarah and Tommy visited...I loved that stuff!!!
What up with men and white......they just don't get it!!!!
Like other shows is there a final walk through episode? It doesn't look like there is.
Absolutely fabulous! Sarah and Tommy have done it again. Your style is my style except you're the ones who think of it. Thank you so much for all the terrific ideas and recycling old pine painted boards. I truly don't know how you can top this cottage reno. This is my absolute favourite. Three cheers! I love ya for this one.
Our family has spent quite a bit of time watching and re-watching the clips on the site trying to pinpoint where your cottage is exactly. We owned a lodge in the area for 18 years on B198 (Barnard Island) and myself, having worked at the local marinas and restaurants as a teenager, cruised around or between every one of those islands around Sans Souci. Good luck with the cottage...good luck to us to find it.
We are in the middle of renovating our family's cottage and would like more detail on what type of wood was used on the ceiling in the living room. I know that the wood was purchased at Home Depot as noted on the show and that the wood was 1 X 10 but what type of wood was it - pine or just fir? We have been struggling with what to use on the ceiling of our cottage and we think this would look great, especially white-washed as Sarah did or painted white. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Sarah,I am a mural artist located in Oakville but I have been commissioned to do over 350 murals form here to Calgary and I am looking to find an opportunity to get some exposure for my murals. I was wondering if you might consider doing some type of tranquil mural somewhere in you gorgeous little get-away??You can look at some of my work at www.geocities.com/kimberlycreationsoakville (although currently being redone it will give you an indication of the caliber of work I do)...Thank you in advance for you time and I hope to hear back from you...Warmest regards,Kim
I am updating my Georgian Bay cottage which is currently cedar clad. I would love to know the colour and brand of paint that Sarah used on the exterior of her cottage...or something similar....I am searching for the perfect blue grey to blend in with the blue of the water and the grey of the rocks. I have watched all episodes of the Sarah's Cottages now several times and thoroughly enjoy the entertainment value as well as the style content. Great job!
It is uncanny; serendipity, if you will. Coincidence; perhaps, or merely fate has yielded its wonderous wand. The interior, with the same colour schemes, tongue-&-groove 6" pine boards, whitewash, and even to the same choice (colour)of stone for the fireplace (I have a woodstove)is the same for the project I am currently undertaking.I live in a small Nova Scotian home overlooking a river (<2km from the ocean)that I have turned into a loft. The addition on the back has already been designed, and shy of the windows, almost mimmicks your project. Thank you so much for tipping the scales of trepidation with regards to my finished project (the number of nay-sayers regarding the wooden walls is astonishing). A wonderful job.
I believe Minwax has a product stain similar to the cottages' exterior
I am in total awe of your ability. To bring together colors, patterns and just the right accessories is amazing. My husband & I will be building a 1300 sq ft retirement home in the country next year. I wish we had you on board to help. (Now that sounds like a whole new show.) I may just have to settle for borrowing some of your ideas from your cottage. I absolutely love it. Kudos to you & your team.
Just wondering what lake she is on? Everything looks like Georgian Bay to us- anyone have any idea?
MMMMM! what can I say I just love love love love all of your shows from Room Service to Sarahs House and now Sarahs Cottage, My husband and I do alot of reno's and flips and have used so many of your ideas. During your show I often hear my husband saying "Honey that sounds just like you" to some thing Sarah may of said during the show. We have recently bought a very small bungalow built in 1956 with vaulted ceilings I am thinking about doing the white wash thing as the gable ends on the inside of the house are 6inch pine. However I am unsure how to mix the white wash and can you give me any guide lines as to what colour to use as I only have CIL or Benjamin Moore products availible to me. Any help would be great. Thanks again to you all even Tommy for all the inspriation, motivation, and captivaiton you give us way out here in the lonely west.
Hi Tracey,Sarah left us the white wash instructions in the comments on the "Bunkie" page, but here they are again:Sarah Richardson says,Hi Everyone! Thanks for all your wonderful support and kind words about the cottage series. We had a fabulous time making the show. The great news is we just started taping Season 3 of Sarah's House on Monday of this week so you'll see all new episodes starting early 2010!In answer to a couple of questions...In order to get the effect we achieved with the whitewashing we simply rolled semi-transparent oil-based stain tinted in a variety of shades (see the source guides) and then brushed the joints to ensure an even application. Be sure to test an area first and perfect your technique before rolling away! We did not wipe off the stain as recommended because I wanted greater coverage, but the effect was achieved with a single coat. Note: You cannot apply a whitewash stain over panelling which has a urethane coating - it won't penetrate (the only solution here is to paint it in a solid stain).
Can't wait for the Sarah's Cottage episodes to air in the US. Watching a loving the Sarah's House episodes now. Why aren't they?
PLEASE put more sarah on in the US! I can't even view the videos online :(
Love all Sarah's shows, can't wait for her cottage show to be seen here in the U.S., will that be very soon? She needs to write a book, with the great pictures of all the rooms she has decorated. How about putting all the show on DVD's. What happened to the rest of her Design Inc. team? Love her with Tommy, even though she seems to talk him into her ideas!!!!!
Please let us see her show in the US, have only seen season one on Fine Living network. When can we see more
I'm trying to replicate the whitewash look and have a couple of questions that I hope you can answer. I've read Sarah's comments above.Did the original cottage have existing staining on the walls? It appeared to be in a honey coloured stain? Our's was done in 1965 and looks about the same.I tried to find a semi transparent stain in the CIL line and have it tinted to " Stratosphere" and the Home Depot folks didn't have it. They suggested diluting paint to get the same effect? Is that stain only available in a CIL store?thanks
Love all of your shows and still enjoy watching the reruns!! Can't wait to see the "Cottage" on TV in the USA. Do you know when it will be available. Thanks for sharing all of your great ideas.
Can't wait to see Saras Cottage show in the USAPlease let us know when.
I live in San Diego, California and have been mesmerized by your talented, delightful Sarah Richardson. Please let me know when "Sarah's Cottage" will be shown on the Fine Living Network in my area.
What a beautiful job your team did with "Sarah's Cottage". It embodies all the things I love about Sarah's design - clean, classy and uncluttered!Keep up the great work!
I enjoyed watching the transformation you did to your cottage. It is absolutely gorgeous. I love the material you used on your living room chaise which looks either ivory or white. Would it be possible to find out the exact name, color and type of fabric you used?
An old fan from of Sarah's from her "Room Service days, I have watched & grown together with Sarah in her decorating ideas & concepts. Her trademark colours (blue & green) are typical colours of cottage decorating & I love them! Sarah's cottage is amazing & her blend of restored flea market finds & recyled materials makes her cottage the special place that it is. I'm sure we'd all like to spend a weekend there just to savour what she has done! I have saved her cottage programs for future reference along with "Style at Home" magazine with her Cottage published in there for our future cottage of which I plan to use some of her ideas for.
This is more of a question, when you white washed the ceiling in the living room, do you dilute the paint or just as it is, and can you do it on a floor? If so how do you keep it from chipping off?
I'm also in love with this kitchen! So inspiring! Does anyone know where you can get those hammered knobs? I haven't had any luck.
Hi Sarah, You always have great ideas and i look forward to watching your shows. I love fixing up my bungalow now.
Dear god HGTV, how many times are you going to run this show? Is this the 7th or 8th time these 6 episodes have been run? How about something new (that doesn't come from HGTV US)?Love,Henny
I concur with Mr. Henny above. What the heck is going on here HGTV? If I run into this show one more time while flipping through I think I'm going to lose it. It wasn't a good series to begin with. It's much worse after it runs 5 or 6 times. Hopefully Sarah will get back to doing what she does best, Sarah's House, with more than 6 episodes per season.Jimmy Vandeleigh
I love watching the re-runs...I still get goose bumps at the last of the Bunkie episode when Sarah says "And it's done"!!
I am looking to put an addition onto our cottage very similar to the front of Sarah's cottage. It would be great to know the dimensions of the addition and the floor plan of the whole cottage to help with our plans. Can someone please post that info or send it to me?Thanks!
Did Sarah's family cottage and homes escape the "Tornados" and fierce storms that ripped through the area on August 20th....2009. ? We all wish you well and Take Care Toronto and areas affected.
It's lovely
Why a bunkhouse? When you step back and look at the structure, it's a 12 x 14 box without heat, plumbing or a foundation. Sarah tried to rationalize the building by suggesting that there is some sort of charm associated with detachment from the cottage, but the cottage is already a detached building in and of itself! Moreover, the general utility of the bunkhouse is nominal and may actually be risky. A guest may not only fall while navigating to the cottage for a midnight tinkle, but could literally fall off the island and drown. Sarah has created a potentially hazardous environment, so why the bunkhouse? In the real world, there are few who would be willing to devote the time and expense necessary to construct and/or finish an outbuilding of this sort. Essentially, Sarah’s bunkhouse seems to be little more than an elaborate storage shed that can serve a dual purpose as a rodent shelter. I guarantee that on the mainland, owners of similar structures have rodent issues and in many instances, old outbuildings have long since been torn down. So, why the bunkhouse? Because, Sarah wanted to decorate another room and thus create another episode for Sarah’s Cottage.
Just finished 'Sarah's House' season 2 and now they are advertising 'Sarah's Summer House' on our local Australian cable network..I am assuming it is 'Sarah's Cottage'...just renamed??WHY rename it? we all know what a 'cottage' is in Australia.
The first episode of Sarah's Cottage / Summer House aired last night in Australia (we are a bit behind here). Wow what an extension! I loved the fabrics chosen and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what brand/designer they might be? I am currently renovating and would love to copy the blue/ white and natural theme. Thanks Sarah and Tommy - you are making my renovation easier and easier with every episode!
Having just completed studies in interior design, I am a huge fan of Sarah. My husband & I have just purchased a beach house so the timing of "Sarah's Summer House" airing here in Australia is impeccible. Thankyou Sarah & Tommy for sharing your fantastic taste & ideas with us!!
I am a big fan of all your shows (Design Inc., Sarah's House and Sarah's Cottage). I'm loving watching the cottage makeover as my parents have just bought a holiday house which needs to be comepletely made over. I love the banter that goes on between you and Tommy. Keep up the good work. xoxo
Hi Sarah and crew,I am very late in sending you this e-mail but I have to tell you how much I enjoyed watching all of your renovation on your cottage. My husband and I live on a beautiful lake on Vancouver Island and I love the style you chose and could totally see it in our home here.Usually I like everything you do anyways, butI really liked this series especially. I look forward to watching more exciting decorating challanges for you. Best wishes to you, your family and staff
Sarah's House has just started airing in Oregon on HGTV. I love the show. Sarah's Cottage has not aired yet on HGTV. I'd love to catch up on episodes but the video link on HGTV website won't play. I'm an avid fan of Sarah. She's incredibly talented.
Fantastic show! One of the best designers/decorators on TV! Can't wait to see Sarah's Cottage and hope she does many more homes in the future. HGTV..you got a winner with Sarah!
I watched the episode today on the master bedroom suite reno . You and Tommy had mentioned disliking the boob lamps on the ceiling . Well this evening while sitting in my recliner I looked up to see that I had been living in this apartment for almost a year and had never really noticed that my ceiling light was a boob lamp , nipple and all . I had a huge laugh about it with my family . I was feeling kinda down but that revelation about my light fixture brought my mood back up . thanks for the laughter I love your show and your design ideas . Sincerely , Kyle Elizabeth Schlosser Aurora , Colorado
I can't believe this. I just opened a string on the DIY message boards asking for a program on the unique challenges offered by vacation homes. If you engage in this type of rehab again, please provide input as to the issues presented by summer homes and/or homes that are not occupied for weeks or months at a time. Specifically how does it impact your choice of materials. Vacation homes, in the Great Lakes basin, face substantial temperature and humidity swings. Here is an example of a dilemma. I came across a cabinetry website that emphatically denied warranty coverage to wood kitchen cabinet doors that were exposed to very high or very low humidity. Mitered joint are especially vulnerable as well as the stiles and rails. A well known Canadian kitchen manufacturer offers boxes made with marine plywood for waterfront areas. One cabinet maker that is widely distributed suggested that the heat should be maintained even if the house is unoccupied; a not very appealing prospect. Yet another question is; can the adhesives used to surface laminate cabinets stand up to large swings in temperature and humidty; do they dry out or get brittle? I have even looked at stainless steel cabinets except that they are almost exclusively modern. Flooring choices are also impacted and we are constantly doing battle with mustiness. Do these concerns affect your selection of upholstered furniture? I realize that there is no ideal solution but it would be nice to make informed decisions and avoid wasting time and money and aggravation. Thanks and I like your style.
I too tried to watch the episodes for Sarah's Cottage here on the HGTV website, but it won't play? Is this something the site is working on? When will it air on HGTV in Minnesota/US? I love Candice Olson, but Sarah, you are just as talented, an I have become a huge fan!! Great design, humor, and awesome style! Love the Sarah's House show, is that your residence or did you sell it? I am a realtor and home stager as well as home investor, so this is right up my alley! Congrats on the baby, is it a boy or girl? I bet their bedroom rocks!
