Get out the bug spray! Sarah Richardson tackles the renovation of her own weekend getaway on Sarah’s Cottage. Most known for her city-centric solutions on Sarah’s House, design inc. and Room Service, Sarah bobs her way through the renovation of her own off the grid stress-buster on an island 17 miles off shore. Over the course of six half-hours, Sarah and crew brave everything from the season’s first ice to shipping issues and black-fly season to help make your cherished getaway the nirvana you’re after. You’d have to be an absolute loon not to watch!

Originally a bachelor shack on a tiny island, this cottage is now in a family way. Sarah’s husband purchased the place a number of years ago and has since kept it as off the grid as possible. A combination of solar, wind and propane made it work for them as a couple. Now with one child and another on the way this place has got to grow up yet hold true to its original mission statement. It’s got to be rustic, relaxing and at one with the stunning scenery in which it is enveloped.

Sarah makes the most sense of this tiny place’s attributes. Guest rooms, bathrooms and a kids’ loft exude a smart, relaxed and casual air.  Character, storage and versatility extend to a combined kitchen, dining room and lounge, which reveals to an outdoor room for summer sunsets and storms as they roll across the lake.  Last but not least on the list is the quintessential bunkie.  It’s all there, with style and dollars to spare!

Sarah untangles the people and processes to renovate right in front of your eyes. Tip after tip on handling an out-of-town reno without having an out of body experience. Tommy Smythe, Sarah’s hip-lipped cohort on city projects takes to the choppy waters to help. His quips swell as Dramamine intake goes up and the latte dosage goes down.  Sarah’s Cottage – making your second house a home!
