Secure 2x4s to Concrete

Question

I'm planning on finishing my basement this spring and was wondering what the best/recommended method is of securing the framing 2x4s to the concrete floor.

- Peter

Answer

There are a few options for securing 2x4s to a cement floor, Peter.

1. you can use a Tapcon screw. This is where you pre-drill a hole through the wood and into the cement floor and then secure the Tapcon screw through.

2. you can use a Ramset gun which is a faster and easier way of doing it. This is a unit that drives a nail through the board and into the cement by means of a 22-cal blank. The action is quick and accurate. The drivers come in different styles such as ones that you activate by hitting the unit with a hammer or even ones that work like a gun with a trigger. If you're not going to be doing a lot, you can rent one of these units for the job at a very reasonable price.

There's nothing like having the right tool for the job.
