We’re down to the short strokes, now, with less than three weeks til Moving Day. Despite my deepest desires, we’re already behind in our packing. The basement, which was supposed to be done last weekend, is still a colossal room of mismatched toys, bins of clothing hand-me-downs, and sporting equipment we may or may not need ever again. That’s Job Number One this weekend. Fingers crossed it gets done.
I’ve avoided checking out current real estate properties for fear I would come across something I liked better than the four-bedroom, two-bath home we bought in Toronto’s west end. But today I slipped and went looking, using HGTV’s Real Estate Finder. And in less than 30 seconds I found a comparable home, for just a little bit more, on one of the neighbourhood’s trendiest streets. I hungrily scour the images and try to estimate if the bedrooms are bigger, or the decor better (it is, by far), but it all falls apart when I see the home’s backyard. They have a fabulous two-car garage (we don’t) but the yard is small. Ours is spectacular. And huge.So huge my husband is already drawing up plans for the in-ground pool.
So I’m satisfied we pulled off a deal and I’ve averted buyer’s remorse, a serious affliction in these crazy real estate times.
UPDATE: Last week, I blogged about my indecision on painting the lovely wood panelling in the front hallway and the high wood baseboards in the living and dining rooms. Most people who commented said we should paint, and while I think it would look beautiful I’m going to live in the home a while before taking the plunge. I like the painted railing posts in Elana’s Shoestring Makeover (see image). This I could do.
