Since moving into their brand new house five years ago, Michelle and Jason had delayed their plans of finishing their basement due to some significant leakage in their foundation. After a number of failed attempts by the homebuilder to fix the leaks from the inside, general contractor Mike Holmes decided to take a different approach: the right approach. He tackled the problem from the outside by excavating around the property and exposing the entire foundation. It didn’t take long to discover that the water was entering the basement through post-holes in the foundation, which were plugged with pieces of foam and sloppily parched over with a thin layer of cement. After properly injecting the post-holes with hydraulic cement, Mike supervised the installation of a new rubber membrane on the outside of the foundation. Michelle and Jason were thrilled to finally have a watertight basement that was free for them to finish.
