Warm up your walls with style and flair. This easy do-it-yourself project plan for a mirror with a matching shelving unit is both functional and attractive.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • MDF Sheets
  • Long bevelled mirrors (6” x 72”)
  • Mirror adhesive
  • Finishing nails
  • Carpenters glue
  • Wood-filler
  • Paint primer
  • Paint
  • Screws
  • Mounting hardware
  • 1” Mouldings

CUT LIST

  • Wall Shelf:
    • Shelf: Cut MDF to 10” x 72 ¼” (2 pcs)
    • Sides and inside spacers: Cut MDF to 10” x 7 ½” (4 pcs)
  • Mirror Frames:
    • Cut MDF to 6 ¼” x 72 ¼” (per frame – you’ll need 3 pieces in total)

INSTRUCTIONS

Construction of Shelf:

  1. Glue, nail and clamp the side MDF pieces to the MDF top and bottom shelf pieces.
  2. Evenly space out the two MDF middle dividers.
  3. Glue, nail and clamp the middle dividers to the top and bottom shelf.
  4. Fill all holes and joints.
  5. Sand, prime and paint.
  6. Attach mounting hardware.

Construction of Mirror Frames:

  1. Cut 1” moulding to the width of each piece of the MDF measuring 6 ¼” x 72 ¼” and attach to all four sides of the MDF creating a shadow-box effect. (It will be easier to cut the smaller sides first and after attaching these with glue and finishing nails, then lay down the longer pieces of moulding and cut exactly to size.)
  2. Fill all holes and joints.
  3. Sand, prime and paint.
  4. Attach mounting hardware.
  5. Using the mirror adhesive, glue down each bevelled mirror.
  6. Allow to set-up overnight before moving.
