INSTRUCTIONS
Rip ½’ sheet material into ten eight foot long strips at 2 1/2”; and ten at 3”.
Use an electric iron to apply self adhesive oak edge tape to one side of each piece. Burnish in place with a block of wood.
Finish off edges by trimming with a utility knife or chiseling and sanding with 150 grit sandpaper.
Glue laminate together one piece of each dimension of sheet material to produce a 1” thick piece with a half inch rabbit down one side.
Use a table saw to trim the exposed edge flush. Apply one inch thick oak edge tape as above
The rabbited side will be the inside edge for the rails(vertical edge pieces 82” tall).
Cut the styles(horizontal pieces at 14”) to form a lap joint where they meet at the corner.
Glue and clamp all pieces together cleaning glue joints as you go.
Sand all joints smooth and finish with an ebonized stain and two coats of clear finish.
Measure for glass panels making sure to allow 1/8” wiggle room( in this case we used laminated frosted glass panels)
Glaze panels in place using black silicone
Once dry, use hinges to join panels together
Console
WHAT YOU NEED
- ¾” Oak Sheet Material at 12” wide
- Wood Glue
- Table Saw
- Electric Iron
- Oak Edge Tape
- Utility Knife
- Sandpaper
INSTRUCTIONS
Cut five 12” wide pieces of ¾” oak sheet material.
Cut one piece in half and glue laminate all of these pieces in pairs so that you have two 1 ½” x 8’ and one 1 ½” x 4’ pieces. Let dry fully.
Use the table saw to trim both edges.
Apply edge tape and smooth edges the same way as above(Three Panel Oak Screen)
Use the table saw to cut miters in both ends of the top piece (8’) and both end pieces (2’).
Cut the floor of the console 3” shorter than the top and use a biscuit jointer to secure this to the ends approx. 3” from the floor
Glue the mitered corners and the biscuit joints at the same time. Check to ensure it is square before allowing to dry fully.
Make an insert divider from black melamine(3/4”) and slide this in place from the back.
