Flatback Christmas Trees: A Holiday Miracle for Small Spaces

What is one to do when the holidays roll around, a constant jingle rings in your ear, holiday lights blind you as you stroll down slush covered sidewalks, and all one wants, all that could possibly make up for the onslaught of holiday merriment, is your very own tree to decorate, regardless of the fact that you live in a 500-square-foot apartment? You can attempt to satisfy your wistful holiday longing with a mini tree, but it’s just not the same. You know it. Your friends know it. And you can be certain Santa knows it, too.

For years I’ve struggled with a desire to have a full sized Christmas tree in my apartment. It stood tall as the last bastion of living in a “grown up” home, a fortress I’ve never managed to conquer, until now…well, almost. I’m cheating.

Between sad mini sapling and big-happy-family sized trees is a middle ground, a compromise tree, if you will. What appears as a gorgeous, seven-foot Balsam Hill holiday tree is actually half that. Peek around the corner and the tree has a flat back. It’s 50 inches wide, but only 25 inches deep and aligns snug with walls, saving valuable space. It’s the perfect solution to small space holiday decorating.

And Santa? He’ll be none the wiser.
