Clockwise from the top; 1. Carter Oosterhouse; 2. Damon Bennett; 3. Colin McAllister; 4. Phil Spencer; 5. Scott McGillivray.
Don’t tell me this isn’t one of your favourite conversations ever!!!!!!!! Haven’t you whiled away entire dinners with your friends talking hot or not? Sure it’s fickle, superficial, objectifying and often downright insulting, but the instant gratification flows in droves! Mulling over the details of your crush and why they’re so hot brings you closer to them, even if it’s just for that one moment… Am I creepy? Next time I’ll use my inside voice [Phil Spencer]…what?… I didn’t say anything…
Oh you KNOW we talk this stuff to death here at the office. We are human after all. And seeing as we’re sick of hearing each other fight over who is a manlier hunk of man, who’s got better hair, or which of our HGTV gents has that special charm and magnetism [Phil Spencer]…what?… I thought it high time to get you, our dear readers and viewers, in on the action! (Not that there ever is any action…sadly.)
Here’s who this office is lusting after;
1. Carter Oosterhouse of Carter Can
I don’t want to count the ways of his charm — because it isn’t fair that all that goodness is wrapped up in one man — but I will; a natural athlete, Carter attended Central Michigan U on a rugby scholarship, where he earned a BA in Nutrition and Communications; he then relocated to LA to pursue a modeling and acting career, but what he really wanted to do was work with his hands…he’s handy, you see. Oh, he also works with childrens’ charities.
2. Damon Bennett of Holmes on Homes and Holmes Inspection
Damon takes a lot of (lighthearted) flack from fans of the Holmes empire… Well let me just say this: It’s NOT his fault he so good-looking! He’s a very skilled contractor with a breadth of knowledge, and is a great mentor to little Mike. Don’t hate the ’80s Pantene commercial lady because she’s beautiful, and you shouldn’t tease Damon.
3. Colin McAllister of Colin and Justin’s Home Heist
Yes indeedy, that swarthy Scotsman! (Well, as swarthy as a pale-faced Scotsman ever gets, I’d imagine…) Sassy-tongued, full-lipped, perfectly quaffed, and often in tweed — need I say more? Oh, and the way he rolls his Rs…. Even if you play it in slow-mo on your TiVo, you’ll never learn the elusive skill of his perfect R-rolling.
OK, so he’s my favourite. I’m not the only one, you know. Many others harbor a flame for those kind eyes, pleasant gentlemanly manner, and a subtle upper English crust modesty that drives me crazy. You know that under those sober button downs and jaunty sweaters is quite the admirable physique. I say flaunt it saucy Phil! Though he does love himself a snug-fitting pair of chinos. And I love how when fans of Phil first confess to each other their crushes, they are sooo surprised that there might be someone else out there that likes him too. There’s no shame is recognizing quality, my friends — Phil is a dream boat.
5. Scott McGillivray of Income Property
Surprise, surprise. Just last week I interviewed him at the National Home Show, and I met his wife — she exists, I’m sad to report. Yes, she’s very pretty, and I asked her what it’s like to have a growing number of people want to rip her husband’s clothes off — actually, the comment we get most often on our Scott videos on You Tube is, "I want to have his baby". She smiled, looked down and quietly answered, "It’s weird." This is not to deter you all from loving yourselves some Scott. In fact, I encourage it. I’ve managed to get Scott to spend some time here on the blog answering your Design Dilemmas! So get to it — Scott could be talking to YOU!
Who tickles your home and garden? Stay tuned for Par 2: The Ladies, next Friday. Yes, we have girl crushes, and there are men who work at HGTV.ca…
