Birthday parties are full of celebration and are the perfect excuse to have fun and decorate. Keep your party decor from looking drab and upgrade leftover hats, birthday candles, napkins and more to make them look fabulous!

1) Dazzle Your Birthday Candles

Sometimes the simple birthday cake candle just doesn’t cut it. Want to add a little more sparkle to that flame? Grab your glitter glue and let’s do this.

Here is what you will need:

  • Birthday candle
  • Glitter glue

Here is what to do:

Glue little dots of glitter glue all over the candle in whatever way you want. It sure adds a little sparkle in the most simple and beautiful way! Let it dry and then top it up on your birthday cake.

2) Update Your Birthday Party Hats

Do you have dull party hats hanging around? Anything leftover from last year’s birthday party? Here is a fun and easy birthday party idea.

Here is what you will need:

  • Felt in any colour
  • Hot glue
  • Pom-poms

Here is what to do for this birthday DIY:

Step One: Start wrapping the felt around the hat and hot glue the edges to keep the felt in place.

Step Two: Trim off the excess felt and hot glue the ends to finish it.

Step Three: Add as many pompoms as you need to make the party hats come to life. That’s it!

3) Make Your Swizzle Stick More Fun

Do you use swizzle sticks to stir drinks? Impress your party guests by dressing up those stirring sticks with a few trinkets and some hot glue.

Here is what you will need:

  • Hot glue
  • Fun trinkets and little extras (like buttons)

Here is what you do for this simple party DIY:

Step One: Grab the swizzle stick and hot glue one trinket on the top.

Step Two: Sandwich another trinket on the other side and glue it down.

TA-DA! You have a super swizzle stick for stirring your party drinks. This easy party DIY can work well for any type of party that you’re hosting.

4) Cut Your Napkins Into Quirky New Shapes

Why do napkins usually only come in the same square or rectangle shape? Freshen up old and tired napkins by cutting them into cool shapes.

Here is what you will need:

  • Scissors
  • Napkins of any shape or colour

Here is what you do:

Using the scissors, cut your napkins into whatever shape you want. I went with hearts and triangles. Sometimes the corners get a bent or wrinkled and by cutting them you can turn them into fun fresh shapes! Too easy and too fun to do something that feels forbidden.

5) Splatter Your Paper Party Decor

A fun way to personalize an everyday white paper party decoration is by splattering it with a little liquid watercolour. Brighten it up with an easy splash of colour!

Here is what you will need:

  • Liquid watercolour (I use small glass containers with droppers)
  • Small dishes and water
  • White paper decorations

Here is what you do:

Put some of the watercolours into some little dishes of water to lighten the colour a bit. Then squirt the colour all over the paper. Have fun with it!

I love the paint splatter look and it takes no time at all. You can go with one colour or as many as you want. Let it dry and you are ready to hang!
