The only person surprised that Bryan is hosting HGTV's hit show Disaster DIY, is Bryan himself! Despite Bryan's apparent charm, his passion for building and pride in craftsmanship (not to mention his rapier wit), he just never saw himself as the conduit for a weekly reno series. But Bryan's a natural who manages to inspire and entertain both troubled homeowners and viewers alike. Bryan was nominated for a Gemini Award for hosting Disaster DIY's first season, and won a Gemini Award for hosting season 2!

Bryan spent his childhood learning tricks of the trade from his Dad – something he's hoping to pass on to his own son in the future! Bryan's father had to be meticulous as his company built and modified parts for private, commercial and military aircraft. His hard work, dedication and attention to detail has always had a profound effect on Bryan.

At the age of 14 Bryan and a friend started up a summer handyman business at the family's cottage and he's been honing his skills ever since. While Bryan's passion for building came early—he's always had a lot of other interests as well. He graduated from Appleby College in Oakville where he not only played football, but sang in the choir and played in the band. Then it was on to University of Western Ontario for degrees in Political Science and Business. He briefly considered going into law, but instead, at age 22 opened his own cargo company: "I would sit in the office staring at my watch wishing I was doing renos on my house... I finally decided that wearing a tie and pushing paper wasn't for me anymore, and it was time to get paid for doing what I love—building and fixing things, just like my Dad."

Using his combined academic knowledge of business and his hands-on experience with home building, he started his own construction company, Baeumler Quality Construction, with the motto Design, Destroy, Rebuild and hasn't looked back since. Bryan represents a new breed of contractor—one with a business plan, a passion for the work he does, and an ambition to grow his company. Surrounded by like-minded young tradesmen, he works hard and aims for a very high level of craftsmanship on every job. In the centre of it all is Bryan: "It's hard to come home and feel like you've done an honest day's work if your hands are too clean!"
