Designer Do: Do use different types of lighting throughout a space. Incorporating task, ambient and accent lighting gives a room dimension and helps emphasize focal points.
Designer Don't: Don't clutter a space with small randomly placed knick-knacks. Go for larger scale objects and group them together for the biggest impact.
Bio
Penny's interest in interior design started at an early age. Growing up in southern Ontario she recalls constantly re-arranging her bedroom to her mother's dismay. She also studied art throughout high school, developing particular interests in composition and three dimensional objects.
Despite this early love of design, Penny's foray into the industry is relatively new. Initially graduating with an economics degree from Queen's University, Penny handled finances for a small sportswear company before working in the investment industry, where she held advisory and product management positions. In her spare time, Penny honed her design knowledge by frequenting design shows and antique auctions. As a creative outlet, she assisted family and friends with residential design and renovation projects. After much encouragement from loved ones, Penny went back to school in 2003 to pursue a diploma in interior design and hasn't looked backed since.
Recently relocating to beautiful Vancouver, BC, Penny is currently establishing her own design firm. Using her strong analytical skills, Penny specializes in finding solutions to design dilemmas. Her client-centric approach ensures that she designs spaces that truly reflect her clients' needs and wants. That said, she loves injecting her own trademark style of eclectic minimalism.
