Just as I dilute the shab of my vintage jeans, a Value Village shirt and grandma sweater with a little designer bag, I throw in a $4,000 dollar custom dining room table to elevate the sea of pre-loved furniture cluttering my home. Well, I don’t just ‘throw in’ a $4,000, custom made dining table. I scheme, covet, plan, beg, fight, nag and submit preposterous payment plans for family discussion before hand, but in the end, I’m happy as a clam.
I love my Commute Home walnut and steel table. It’s exactly the right size and proportion for the room, and now I’m free to put any manner of shabby chair with it as it’s such a good looking specimen, nothing could ruin it. That’s what I call a good splurge. You rip it out from the rabid grip of a bad economy, and instead of bringing on the guilt, it gives back.
What made you loosen the purse strings in your home? And are you happy? Funny; beds seem to be a big thing for people (see below)… go figure.
