Flipping through the September issue of one of my guilty pleasures, Elle Décor, I noticed the “Ship” chandelier in one of the editorials. I’ve seen them around here and there, but lately the ship chandelier seems to have upped its profile.

Readers of Apartment Therapy voted back in April that the ship chandelier was tacky. But the antique one featured here from Burden Antiques and Fine Works of Art, NY, NY, looks absolutely striking in fashion designer Nanette Lepore’s parlour.
It just goes to show you that if properly styled, whimsical décor items such as this can be an incredible focal point and just the right imaginative touch to top off a long-running design favourite: the eclectic mix.
Ms. Lepore’s one-of-a-kind was an approximate $8,000 splurge, but if you’re up for the challenge of integrating the crystal ship into your front rooms, check out these not so completely-out-of-the-question finds available online, as well as to ship from Chatelet in Toronto.
