Ooooo this is exciting! The Bay has collaborated with three of Canada’s top home decor and textile designers for this limited edition collection of tea towels. As you may or may not know, we here on HGTV.ca are great fans of affordable artwork, and as such, love to frame tea towels! Though since these are perfect for Mother’s Day, I guess it would be best to leave your mom be if she decides to simply hang them off her (undeserving) stove. (I’d keep them for myself. Just saying.)
For this collection, designers Alanna Cavanagh, Virginia Johnson and Bev Hisey were asked to interpret Spring, and you can get their whimsical creations at select Bay stores as well as online (see above), retailing for $14.95. Though Alanna Cavanagh’s towel is already sold out!! And we have one :)
The tea towels are 100% linen and were designed exclusively for The Bay, as a limited edition of 1,000 per design. The project is a collab with Ulster Weavers, a renowned UK firm – originally founded in 1880 — that have a Royal Warrant to the Queen for kitchen textiles. The next series will launch in September with designs from our very own Tommy Smythe, illustrator and author Leanne Shapton and textile design firm Pehr Designs.
Alanna Cavanagh is a Toronto based illustrator and printmaker. Her whimsical illustrations have a charming retro sensibility and have appeared on everything from book covers to wall murals and postage stamps. Her clients include The New York Times, Chronicle Books, The Four Seasons Hotel, Real Simple Magazine, and Penguin.
Bev Hisey has had her mitts in the Canadian and international design field for a million years. She started with fashion, and moved into home décor after the birth of her daughter in 1990. In 2002, at New York’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair, Bev launched a line of handmade carpets, floor runners, cushions and blankets to both great applause and media recognition. Since that time, Bev has created an ever-expanding line of quality hand-made products for the home. Bev’s style – playfully modern colour combinations, with sophisticated hand-crafted finishings – sets her apart as a design original.
Virginia Johnson attended Parsons School of Design and worked as an accessories designer for Helmut Lang in New York. As a textile designer, Virginia creates colourful prints on clothing, shawls, home and children’s wear. Founded in 2001, the collection is carried in over 100 stores worldwide. She also illustrated a series of books and stationery for Kate Spade. Her other clients include Vogue US, Vogue Japan and InStyle.
