My ensuite bathroom is a dream come true. My husband and I did a complete renovation. The previous bathroom was half the size, and about as hideous as a bathroom could get. Wasted space, zero storage, a mini single vanity, a jacuzzi tub (eww) and tiny shower stall — all covered in mould, all a nasty shade of pink. “Dusty rose” comes to mind.
Enter my idea of Xanadu, to steal a phrase from Olivia..
We moved a wall back into the very large master bedroom. This gave us twice the space. We added an extra window on the right — which faces East and gets the morning sun. I love natural light and can’t ever get enough of it. I had a stool covered in terry cloth — it’s a perfect place for your clothes or a towel while you bathe and it stands up to a good splashing from your toddler in the tub. The pretty curtains were custom made by my lovely mom and the Buddha simply makes me smile. Yes, the colour purple in the chandelier really pops but it’s unexpected, like the Buddha — I like that in a space.
One of the best parts — a water closet. No need to explain why this brings joy! For my husband, a shower large enough that the curtain would not touch him — he got it! We used a watery green glass tile and ran it floor to ceiling. The floor tile is the traditional and very country feeling octagon with center square. I went with pale sage green for the centre square. Oh, the floor is heated too!
Another favourite feature: my own tub that is angled in the corner so I can see out over our farm.
But this, I tell you, his and her sinks, is fabulous! What’s his is his, what’s mine is mine. I will admit, my sink is always slightly more sparkly than his!
Would you balk if I told you everything came from Home Depot? I love them!
My inspiration for this room was to mix my love of modern country, girly touches and water colours. I love white and kept it mostly so, but the touches of aqua and robin’s egg blue made it come to life.
Here are my paint colours:
The blue on the walls is called Bluebird by Sico 6161-31.
The white I used is called Polar Bear by Behr W-F-200
The water closet and bathtub are painted Sico Anticosti Grey 6161-41
