Knowing how to create colour flow throughout your home will help you pull together your overall design for a beautiful harmonious look.
To help you visualize how colour flow can contribute to the style of your home, we’ve created two beautiful paint colour palettes. One illustrates the use of soft colours and the other bold colours.
We display both colour schemes in the same rooms so you can easily see the effects of the different colour palettes in the same space. Just click on the link below to see these two options and get some ideas on creating your own.

Simple Tips on Achieving Colour Flow
Selecting the right colours to connect your rooms starts with inspiration. Use a work of art that speaks to you, a favourite vacation spot, the colours of room accessories you find pleasing—anything can inspire your new palette.
Harmonizing colour seamlessly is based on continuity. To achieve this, keep in mind that, although every room design is unique, any combination of colours with similar undertones will maintain the unified appearance you seek.
Here are a few simple, highly-effective ways to achieve paint colour flow:
- Choose one or two common colours for all of your rooms to share (the trim colour, for example)
- Alternate primary wall colours with accent colours between rooms (crown moulding, French doors, shelves, a fireplace mantel)
- Let each room’s colour scheme be a slight variation of the adjoining room’s colour scheme
- Use the colours of your design accessories—artwork, draperies, area rugs, throw pillows, upholstery—to help transition the colour palette from room to room.
