Organizing expert Julie Subotky shares her tips for a calming front hall.
An entryway is the gateway to your home. Walk into chaos and you may feel unsettled or stressed out. Walk into calm and organized and you’ll have a better shot at being relaxed. How to have an organized and welcoming space? The key is to set yourself up for success. Think about what you need when you are walking in or out of your home and create a place for it.
- Designate a spot right near the door to drop or hang your keys. A hook or a pretty bowl works well. Consider picking something up next time you travel somewhere great and each day you will be reminded of that special place.
- Get a beautiful box and a small trash bin so that you can immediately sort through your mail. Pitch unwanted items and place the rest of the mail in the box so you can go through it later, but won’t have to look at the huge pile for days on end until you get to it.
- Donate unworn coats and make space for what you do wear. Make a small investment in matching hangers so that everything lines up neatly and be sure you have enough hangers for when guests arrive.
