Can you help me to create a Zen-look in my all-beige family room? The kids have gone to university and my husband and I feel we deserve a room to catch up on some overdue relaxation. I always see these beautiful Zen-style rooms on TV but haven’t a clue where to begin with our own. Thanks!
There is an entire philosophy behind the Zen interior, and although it is difficult to break it down to a quick answer, there are simple elements that you can add to your room to give it a more peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.
Begin the process by introducing some of nature’s calm and peaceful elements indoors. Bring things like plant life and water, smooth stones and natural materials into your space. Plants should be simple, like bamboo. Small water features such as fountains are now very affordable, and the sound of water is always relaxing.
Your room is beige, so that is a good start. Keep the colours warm and soft. Natural products like cork floors or sisal rugs are welcoming and comfortable.
There is no typical Zen room. Just keep nature in mind and try to fill the room with as many natural elements as possible.
