I got a wee bit tired of painting Easter eggs year after year. I also refuse to blow out the inside of a real egg any more. I’m sorry, but I don’t need the extra stress on my head. It hurts enough already.
So..what else could we do?
Buy some brown paper eggs from the craft store for a few dollars! I painted them white as my pretty colours will show up better with white underneath versus the brown.
I picked up a package of tissue from the craft store too. Not the really fine tissue though. This kind seemed to have a little sheen to it and is thicker than the other tissue. I’ll tell you why it matters later.
Shred it into bits.
Mix up a little paste from craft glue and water, or use flour and water, alternatively. I found the craft glue made a smoother paste (I tried both).
See where I’m going with this? Papier Mache! (Sounds way fancier said with a French accent).
Easy, pretty, fun for the kids, fun for the adults and, you don’t have to be careful with them.
I opted for solid patterns, but my wee girl went with a big mixture.
How happy are these!?
Now, the really thin tissue is tempting with all the pretty colours, but, I tell you this…it tints the bowl of paste, stains your fingers and falls apart really easily. Frankly — it’s a disaster. So buy the paper that feels thicker to the touch — it comes in just as many pretty colours, if not more!
My grumpy (devilish?) bunny is actually very happy..inside.
