As the most personal space in the house, the bedroom is where you begin and end each day, therefore the art in your bedroom is amongst the first and last things you see each day as well. It is of tremendous importance, perhaps more so than in any other room in your home, that the art is something you love, that evokes positive thoughts and emotions and speaks to the very best in you, your personality and your style. It sets the tone, much in the same way that a messy bedroom can create a sense of anxiety, chaos and discord, the wrong art can subconsciously and yet profoundly affect your mood in the most positive or negative ways. It’s a choice not to be taken lightly but, by no means, does that imply it can’t be fun, interesting and inspired. After all, who wouldn’t want to start a new day feeling a sense of all of those things?
From all the various design resources out there, it’s evident that headboards are of great concern and importance when designing a look for the bedroom. Perhaps consider a large artwork to serve as the focal point and anchor for the bed as an alternative to the upholstered, tufted headboard on trend at the moment.

This raw, topographical painting on canvas by artist Manny Neubacher is left un-stretched, therefore it’s a gorgeous choice of work to hang above the bed in place of a headboard. It can be hung loosely like a tapestry on a dowel or stretched in a frame for a more formal and structured finish.

If you have a large modern bedroom blessed with high ceilings (lucky you!), consider a sculptural work with an organic feel.
It’s always nice to lean a large framed mirror in the bedroom (it makes one look tall and slim so it’s a no-brainer) but if you already have wall mounted or built-in closet mirrors, then leaning a large painting on the floor can be a gorgeous, romantic touch.

Below is an oversized abstract by artist Katie Pretti. Sensuous, gestural abstracts with a hint of the erotic and figurative elements make these beauties the perfect choice for this treatment.
