We had a chance to chat with this supermom about how to decorate on a budget.
HGTV.ca: What are your top tips for decorating on a tighter budget?
DB: If you have a tight budget keep things simple. I take inspiration from the way Italians think about clothes: you don’t necessarily need a lot, but what you do have should be quality. It doesn’t have to happen all at once. You can invest and collect over time. As much as possible direct your money to the bones of the house. You can’t put a monetary value on the effect of natural light or nice clean lines or high ceilings.
After this, the key is to choose your decorating splurges wisely. Try to curate your collection well by learning how to strike that balance between the high-end items that will truly elevate a space (maybe it’s that one light fixture or that iconic chair) and the trendier items that add a pop of fun and whimsy. For art, you can have inexpensive posters framed, or frame your kids’ art.
