Painted Jars and Bottles

By Sarah Jones

With the holiday decor safely stored until next year it’s time to start adding some bright colours to your home decor. Bright coloured bottles and jars are the perfect home accessory to bring new life to a side table, bookshelf or windowsill. This tutorial will show you how!

  • Glass vases, bottles or jars in various shapes (check your local second hand store. Pasta and salsa jars would also work!)
  • Acrylic tole paint in colours of your choosing (plan to use one bottle per jar.)

Step 1: Wash and Dry

Make sure all of your glass jars or vases are washed and completely dry before beginning this project. Place your jars on a clean surface and chose the jar you’d like to coat first.

Step 2: Time to Get Started

Holding your jar in one hand the the bottle of acrylic paint in the other, carefully pour paint into the jar, aiming near the rim and allowing the paint to run to the bottom. Don’t use all the paint from the bottle right away, remember more can always be added!

Slowly start to rotate your jar so that the paint starts to work it’s way onto all of the inside walls of the glass. This will take a little bit of time. Patience makes perfect with this project! If you find that the paint stops moving as you rotate the jar add more paint in the same manner as before.

Step 3: Almost Finished

Once you’re happy with the consistency of the paint and the inside walls of your jar have been thoroughly coated with paint place your project in a safe place to allow for the paint to dry. Drying time will vary. It is a good idea to leave it in a safe place overnight. Place wildflowers into the jars or display a cluster of them on a bookshelf. These jars add instant brightness to any room they are placed!
