Carvers

Pete Ryan

Pete Ryan

Pro Carver

Pete Ryan may look like a rough and tumble guy, but nothing could be further from the truth. Pete’s been carving for nearly 40 years, and is a master of his craft. He can tell you everything there is to know about the subjects he carves, from the number of feathers on a bird’s wing to the exact angle at which a bear’s claw curves. Used to working at his low-stress home in Hope, Pete’s suddenly found himself the veteran carver in the pressure-cooker Pioneer building yard.

Mark Colp

Mark Colp

Pro Carver

Based in Lakeport, California, Mark is a highly experienced, award-winning speed carver with 20 years of professional experience. He is one of only 3 carvers on Echo Chainsaws’ prestigious Carving Team. Mark has a well-earned reputation as a speed carver, and he’ll need those skills to get some of Pioneers biggest carving jobs finished on time!

Ken Sheen

Ken Sheen

Pro Carver

Ken Sheen first picked up a chainsaw nearly 30 years ago, working as a logger and trapper to provide for his family. Always creative at heart, he decided to take his skills as a timber faller and try his hand at power carving. That was 14 years ago—and he’s been doing it professionally ever since. Ken’s been Pioneer’s main carver for years, and he can be prickly about his turf. He doesn’t like sharing workspace, tools—or glory—with other carvers. He certainly doesn’t like messing around on the job, the way Ryan Cook sometimes does. He’s just hoping that he doesn’t lose his cool—it’s bad for business when the carving yard turns into a combat zone.

Paul Frenette

Paul Frenette

Pro Carver

Based in Kitchener, ON, Paul began carving over 10 years ago in an effort to replace a beloved statue of his that had been stolen. A former corporate IT manager and automation systems engineer, Paul’s strong engineering skills make him an asset on Pioneer’s more complex large-scale carvings. In the carving world, Paul is known for possessing a flare for fantasy and myth-based carvings.

Ryan Cook

Ryan Cook

Pro Carver

Ryan is an actor-turned carver who, in just a few short years has managed to get a sponsorship deal with Echo Chainsaws, and compete at the World Carving Championships—one of only 4 Canadians to get invited this year. Pioneer wants to take a chance on this dark horse, but Ryan’s goofball reputation precedes him, and the Timber Kings are still a little unsure if they’ve made the right choice bringing him onto the team. Ryan may be a newly minted world champion—but nobody at Pioneer cares. He’ll have to prove himself in the yard, just like everyone else.

Bryan Reid III

Bryan Reid III

Junior Carver

Being the third generation of Reids working on the Pioneer yard, the pressure is on Little Man to uphold the family name and reputation – after all, his granddad owns the company and his dad is the crew boss. Other Carvers may suspect a degree of nepotism at play when Little Man gets a carving commission, so he’s going to have to work twice as hard to prove that he’s worthy...

Jacob Frenette

Jacob Frenette

Junior Carver

Jacob is the son of Carver Kings master carver Paul Frenette. Jacob caught the carving bug at age 13 when he began assisting his dad at carving competitions. Now 21, it’s time for Jacob to decide what he wants to do with his life, and Paul is hoping that the time his son spends at Pioneer will help him figure out whether becoming a pro carver or not – all while dealing with the pressure of not embarrassing his dad on the Pioneer yard...

Dean Ross

Dean Ross

Junior Carver

Dean Ross is an energetic, upbeat house builder who’s been with Pioneer for the past 8 years. But even though he’s proud of his job, there’s still something missing. He wants to be a carver, badly. Now, Dean’s finally getting more opportunities to carve. But when push comes to shove, and 12 hour days turn into all-nighters, will Dean be able to keep up and prove he has what it takes to carve alongside masters like Ken and Pete?

Ceintairo Beaulieu

Ceintairo Beaulieu

Junior Carver

Like Dean, Ceintairo is a young laborer working for Pioneer on the log homes. Ceintairo recently had a shot to do some carvings in Pioneer homes and he’s looking forward to showing everyone that he can play with the best of them. He thinks he can blow Ken Sheen and Pete Ryan out of the water — he just needs the chance to prove it...
