3 Gorgeous Alternatives to the Classic Lazyboy

Posted by Judith Mackin Friday, August 16, 2013 12:16 PM EST

I’m guessing most of us inhabit living spaces appointed with lovingly selected and carefully placed pieces of furniture and décor. Curiously, however, what often escapes our otherwise discriminating eye are the quality and worth of chairs whose primary purpose is comfort.

You probably know the sort of recliner/lounger I’m referencing here, the one you inherited or that came with your significant other, or that you bought on sale because, well, in the store it took an immediate shine to your gluteus maximus.

Whether you’re in the market to upgrade the above-described interloper, or invest in something as chic as it is comfortable, here are three potential stylish options with three price points.

1. The first that automatically springs to mind is the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman.

This is a classic choice and a genuine design investment; it’s a chair that will not go out of style. Beautifully designed and, as I was told by someone actually sitting in one at the time, “it offers the comfort, support and luxury one so richly deserves.”

The Eames can, of course, be personalized with various veneer and fabric/leather choices. It is the highest priced of the three options, retailing at approximately $4499.

2. The second is the Sparrow Glider and Ottoman, this sleek design is from Gus*Modern.

The clean lines and simplicity of this design also provide a certain design longevity. Its comfort level is superior and, as an additional bonus, both the chair and ottoman glide!

The glider and ottoman together retail in the mid-range at approximately $1,657.

3. The third and final option for reclining and relaxing is this stylish James Harrison rocker from West Elm.

West Elm created this beauty in collaboration with UK-based designer James Harrison who specializes in unique modern furniture made using traditional furniture-making techniques. If you’re interested, it can be found here:

This is the lowest priced option of the three at approximately $981.
