Splurge vs. Steal: Glass Top Dining Tables

When I fantasize about my perfect dining area, one item is a constant: a glass dining table. They aren't for everyone, I know; they highlight finger prints, some people perceive glass as being a little bit cold, and there's the paranoia of accidentally breaking this huge hunk of glass (even I have a bit of an issue with that).

But, I want my dining room to be airy, cheerful and clean, and I have a small space; I'm really trying to avoid heavy items that take up a lot of visual area.

Enter my inspiration for this post (pictured left): the Platner Dining Table from Design Within Reach. I love it, but when it comes time to get a new dining table, will I be willing to splurge? Take a look at my other splurge pick below and a couple more affordable glass table steals below:

Top: splurge -- Platner Dining Table ($2848 USD) and Cross Round Table Glass ($1750 USD) from Design Within Reach

Bottom: steal -- SALMI Dining Table from IKEA ($179.99) and Halo Dining Table from Crate & Barrel ($599 USD)
