Seems like it's bathroom makeover week, what with the Sarah 101 Classic Ensuite episode on Tuesday. Our guest blogger Michelle also tackled the renovation of her 80s master bathroom, check it out!

The Before

We decided last summer to finally begin investing in our house (which we purchased in 2006) by renovating the master bathroom. The previous owners really liked their 1980’s pink and white colour scheme; we weren’t so enamored by it so it had to go. My concept was simple and elegant, made up of a clean palette to create a place where we could relax and enjoy a good soak.

Demolition Day

Floor Plan
Here is a rough sketch I did of the floor plan. We thankfully didn’t have to change a thing about the layout apart from choosing a vanity and cabinet which were less deep than the originals to make the room feel larger.

The AHHHH-fter

Approx. cost: $10,000

Biggest challenge: Living with two young kids during the renovation of the only bathroom in our house with a shower/bath. For over six weeks straight, we would all have to jump into the car after dinner and head over to my father’s house to get clean. Thankfully, he only lives ten minutes away.

Not so sure about: The rain shower head. Although it looks good, I miss the ability to pick up a wand and clean and rinse out the bathtub.

Absolutely recommend: A dimmer! It can totally change to mood in the bathroom from fun bath time with the kids to a spa-like feel for us tired parents at the end of a long day.

Love: The marble tiles in the shower. Seeing as it’s a permanent feature in the room, we decided to splurge on the tiles rather than something like the vanity which is much easier to replace if we decide to change it.
