Question of the Week: Will Digital Picture Frames Replace Traditional Picture Frames?

Digital photography has made capturing life's special moments easier and it instantaneously fulfills most of our photo needs. We don't have to wait for our film to be processed anymore because film is irrelevant to the digital photography experience and we don't always have to print all of our images because we have  many other options for viewing and sharing our pictures. Social media web sites like Flickr and Facebook allow us to upload our pictures to image galleries that can be viewed from any computer and these sites provide us with a clutter-free means of storing all of our images in one place. It is this ease and convenience of digital image galleries that has lead to the invention of the digital picture frame.

These picture frames come in a variety of sizes and styles and usually have built-in memory and(or) memory card reading capabilities. The beauty of the digital picture frame is the options that it provides for displaying your pictures, as you can display your favourite image or create a slideshow of your best pics. Some digital picture frames even have built in speakers for background music to accompany your visual presentation. Personally, I would never use the background music feature as I find it a little pretentious, but I do like the convenience of changing an image when I'm bored with it and the slideshow option is a great way to display a series of images without having to deal with a bunch of frames in my tiny living space.

On the contrary, a digital picture frame may not appeal to everyone due to its inability to achieve a traditional aesthetic that only a traditionally matted and framed glossy photograph can create - a digital image will always look digital in a digital picture frame.
