The thought of relaxing against large burgundy, velvet cushions on a warm afternoon made me sweat just thinking about it. As a result, I spent a large part of April scanning websites and hitting up stores to replace my living room couch cushion covers in an effort to lighten up the space. I ended up with these covers I grabbed on sale at Pottery Barn for $13.99 each -- a great deal! I really like the cushions, but they're not really matching too much in the rest of my space.
So, for May I'm all about finding some accessories that will complement the colours from my new cushion covers. I'm hoping to find a new throw to replace the heavy burgundy one still on my couch, and maybe a vase and some pictures to switch out in some of my frames. The hunt is on.
And so is the challenge!
How are you updating your space for spring? Are you updating the towels and accessories in your bathroom or switching up the cushions in your living room like I did? Or have you been searching for some new items for your outdoor space: a water feature, new planters, or a new umbrella?
Here's how to participate in our photo challenge:
- Take a picture of your updated space; maybe it's the whole space, or maybe you just want to share a small portion, like, a new patio chair.
- Email your picture to stylesheet AT hgtv DOT ca and a short description by June 13, 2008.
- Alternatively, if you've got a flickr account, you can post your picture(s) and description directly to our Style Sheet photo group.
And what's a challenge without prizes? We've got some great books to giveaway to a couple of lucky participants: Outdoor Kitchen Ideas That Work: Creative Design Solutions for Your Home by Lee Anne White and Outside the Not So Big House: Creating the Landscape of Home by Julie Moir Messervy and Sarah Susanka.
