Here’s a bright and feminine space that embodies the look we like to call “bohemian modern.” With elements such as hanging doorway beads, floor pillows and a bamboo circle chair, this room evokes 1960s and 1970s flair. The colour scheme of pink, yellow and orange is quite cheery, though it’s definitely not the right design route for everyone.
Personally, I see this space as inspiration for a young girl’s room. The Danish modern sideboard adds a touch of mid-century modern and acts as a sounding board for the louder and more flamboyant elements. IKEA floating shelves are always a great, affordable and clean choice; they are perfect for any look, providing a neutral backdrop for your accessories of choice.
In this mood board, I chose to decorate my shelf with accessories by Jonathan Adler because, to me, he optimizes the happy, warm, uninhibited and confident approach necessary to pull off this look. When working with such warm and poppy punch colours, adding a small splash from the cooler end of the colour wheel provides a touch of calm. Neutrals such as grays and browns can provide the same effect.
This room is a pep talk, reminding us to have fun with our design. It’s easy to get caught up being safe and reserved — but where’s the fun in that? Sometimes, it’s best to not take ourselves too seriously; sometimes, it’s best to let loose and create spaces that just make us happy.
