Makeover: Cook-Friendly Basement Suite from Income Property

Top: The empty space, before and after, where the kitchen went; Bottom: The same room from the other side where the living room is now.

If you missed Income Property on Monday, no need to fret! Evelyn and Armel had an energy audit and are now spending a lot of money retrofitting their home to be more cost and eco-efficient. They need the rent from a basement tenant to help them pay for their long-term investment, but there was nothing to start with -- no kitchen or bedroom, just a long, typical space and an old laundry room. Send in Scott McGillivary to save the day, and their bank accounts, with a comfortable, stylish suite -- including a kitchen with counter/cupboard space usually unheard of in basement apartments. (Jealous!)
