Last month I attended the Kitchen & Bath Show in Las Vegas to see what’s new and notable in the world of kitchen and bath design. There was much to see whether decorative, personalized, highly functional or technologically advanced. Here are a few trends that I noticed and loved.

Decoration

1) Exotic Finishes

The use of interesting and exotic finishes like these antiqued mirror zebra tiles by Martyn Lawrence Bullard for Ann Sacks.

2) Cool Hardware

3) Kohler’s new Artifacts collection

Kohler’s new Artifacts collection is a new spin on timeless and classic designs. You are able to choose your own spout, handles and finish for a personalized look. (Bathroom sink spout with bell design and lever handles in a polished nickel finish is shown.)

4) Kallista’s Unlacquered Brass Finish

Kallista’s new unlacquered brass finish will naturally patina over time or can be polished to restore its brilliance. The finish has been around since Victorian times and again in the 1970’s but took a backseat with the advent of chrome. And now it’s back in favour because of its warmth and organic nature.

5) Hand Painted Tiles

Hand painted tiles that look timeworn and have historical influences like Walker Zanger’s Duquesa in the Fatima pattern. These would look stunning as either floor tiles or a kitchen backsplash.

Organization

6) The One Collection by Blanco

Sink

The One Collection by Blanco features sinks and accessories like a wood cutting board, and knife and utensil holders that fit right on the sink. Perfect for small spaces or the organized chef.

7) Drawer within a Drawer by WoodMode

This bath cabinetry display by Wood Mode shows two drawers within a drawer and inserts to keep everything organized and easy to find.

8) Kitchen Drawer Inserts

Kitchen drawer inserts, like these from Poggenpohl, include cutlery trays, spice racks and knife blocks in a wood finish. They show everything at a glance and keep items in place.

Technology

9) Aero Rain Shower Head

Rain heads are a luxury that more clients are requesting. Toto’s new Aero Rain Shower head is 12” wide but conserves water by drawing air in and pumping it into the water droplets – enlarging them for better coverage. The aerated water falls in short, pulsating intervals so you feel as if you are enjoying more water then you actually are.

10) Dekton by Cosentino

DEKTON-MUESTRAS

A newly launched surface which can be used indoors and outdoors not just for counters but for floors and facades as well. It is produced using innovative technology which gives it superior strength and a high resistance to heat, scratches and stains. In fact, it is “stain proof” not just resistant.
